Aloha Munchkin families! I attended the University of Hawai’i where I received my Bachelor of Education degree in 1993. During my time in the Aloha state I taught Kindergarten-Second grade on the beautiful island of Kaua’i. I moved back to my home state of California in 1997, when I then married my husband, Troy. We have two adult daughters, who are Mulberry alumni. Now, that my daughters are all grown up, I decided to go back into the classroom and teach full time. When my children where small I substituted for East Whittier City School District since 2005. I'm going on my seventh year teaching at Mulberry! This year I will be teaching Kindergarten for the second year and I am over the moon excited! I have so many fun things planned and I look forward to and fantastic 2024-25 school year, it is going to be awesome!

Here is my lovely family, two legged and four legged. I've been married to Mr. Incredible for 25 years, but I have known Troy, as he likes to be called since I was 19 years old. We have two daughters, Madison who is 25 who attended Cal State LA with a degree in Sociology and is going back to school to become a nutritionist and works as a physical trainer. MacKenzie, who graduated from Cal State Fullerton and is pursuing her masters in Psychology in New York. She works with children as Behavior Intervention specialist and loves her job. They are both Mulberry Alumni and have wonderful memories attending East Whittier City School District. Last but not least our two dogs, Snickers Barbra, our Jack Russell Terrorist and Minnie our blind Chihuahua, who is a rescue dog. You were learn a lot more about my family during the year and get a visit from them from time to time.

During my first year teaching fourth grade at Mulberry we had a visit from the quarterback from the University of Hawai'i. Cole McDonald! That year it was a whole lot of fun rooting for him on the football field as he represented our local community La Mirada. I attended high school with his father. In 2018 we were fortunate that he was able to come and recite our UH fight song during one of our morning assemblies.

Before I became an educator I was studying to become a Marine Biologist. I learned how to scuba dive when I was 18 and I have swam with sharks at night in the Northern Channel Islands and scuba dived along the California coast. I enjoy everything about the ocean and consider the beach my happy place. I lived on the island of Kaua'i for 10 years, it was one of the best experiences of my life and share many stories with my students about my time living on the island.

Since my alma mater (University of Hawai'i} is the Rainbow Warriors it seemed fitting to carry the theme of our classroom to include my all time favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz. This movie theme is carried throughout our classroom. The beautiful song "Somewhere over the Rainbow" from the late Hawaiian artist Israel Kamakawiwoʻole is a song that is dear to my heart. This year we will read the book and at the end of the year we watch the movie with our stuffed friends and eat popcorn! This activity is one of the students highlights of the year! You will see that this theme is carried throughout our classroom environment.
