Opting Out of COmprehensive Sexual health Education

Under the California Healthy Youth Act, parents and guardians have the right to excuse their child from participating in comprehensive sexual health education and HIV prevention instruction.

To opt out, a parent or guardian must submit a written request to the school stating that they would like their child excused from this instruction. Once the request is received, the student will be excused from the lesson or unit and provided with an alternative activity during that time.
