Students will work in teams to explore the social, economic and environmental implications behind technological innovations and projects around the world. The challenge is centred around a range of engaging hands-on and virtual activities to show students the importance of teamwork, communication and community consultation in problem solving.
The Innovation Challenge is hosted by the Engineers Without Borders University of Melbourne Chapter and is run by volunteers studying a variety of disciplines at different levels. Participants will get the chance to interact with current university students and gain an understanding of day-to-day university life, subjects and course pathways.
Schools are invited to either nominate up to eight students in Years 9-10 to participate in the program, or share the information with parents who can sign up students individually. Please note, if your school has participated in the program previously, we recommend sending students that have NOT previously participated.
The challenge will begin at Melbourne University Parkville Campus on Monday 25th November 2024. There are no costs associated with this year's program.
The steps to register are:
Advertise the opportunity to your students and gather expressions of interest.
Complete the registration form here. The form can be completed by a teacher for all students, or alternatively, a parent can fill out the form individually here.
Please nominate up to 8 students but if you believe there are a few other students that may be interested, please fill out the form twice with as many students as you wish.
Please note, completion of this registration form does not automatically ensure acceptance as our numbers may be restricted. We will be closing registration on Monday 4th November 2024 and contacting schools/parents to confirm students' place at the event after this date. Once you have been notified that your application is successful, we will send forms for students to complete with their parents.
In collaboration with Engineers Without Borders Australia, we are proud to announce a partnership with Bentley Systems and Bentley Education! We are very grateful for their support and are excited for the opportunity that the Innovation Challenge will present students to meet engineers solving real world problems. If you'd like to learn more about Bentley's involvement, or the Innovation Challenge itself, you can read the latest blog from Engineers Without Borders Australia.
