What is Social Justice Day?
SJD is an entire school day dedicated to teaching 4th-8th graders different topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and how to support social justice causes in our communities and beyond. Throughout the day, students choose from a variety of workshops run by teachers, staff, and guests from the larger community. These workshops vary in content, but they all have social justice at their core. There is also an opening and closing ceremony with student speakers and guest performers.
When is Social Justice Day?
All day on Thursday, October 10th, 2024.
What is the theme this year?
The theme for this year's Social Justice Day is "Ripples to Waves: Small Actions, Big Changes." With this theme in mind, students will be encouraged to think about their sphere of influence and the daily actions they can take to spark larger change.
What do sessions look like?
There are three sessions throughout the day: 9:35-10:30, 10:50-11:45, and 1:30-2:25. These sessions consist of a variety of workshops put on by Evergreen staff and faculty, as well as grade-level seminars run by special guest facilitators. Students choose two workshops they want to participate in, and then join their grade level for their assigned seminar.
