EPS proposed a three-year contract to the EEA that includes a raise of 5.2% for the 23/24 school year. The offer also includes an increase of TRI (Time, Responsibility & Incentive) pay from 8.8% to 9.6% and an additional Professional Development day (7 days total). Summaries

September 9, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 9, bargaining continued. After six months of bargaining and three weeks of mediated negotiations, EPS submitted a final offer. The EPS bargaining summary with links to the final proposal and inclusive school's plan may be found on the public website (at the top of this page). 

September 8, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 8, the bargaining teams continued negotiations and Superintendent Boyd has been present and available throughout the process. Both teams continue to have face-to-face conversations to discuss the differences on outstanding items. From the conversations, the EPS bargaining team sent a response in an attempt to bridge the gap and bring us closer to an agreement. Negotiations have concluded for the day and will resume tomorrow morning.

September 7, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 7, bargaining continued throughout the day. There were face-to-face conversations with members of each bargaining team to discuss outstanding items in an attempt to move closer together in areas. 

September 6, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 6, proposals were exchanged between both bargaining teams. Bargaining concluded at 9:00 p.m. and will continue tomorrow.  

September 5, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 5, the EPS bargaining team and the Superintendent met in a joint session with the EEA bargaining team. The mediator dismissed both bargaining teams at 7 p.m. this evening and bargaining will continue tomorrow. 

September 4, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 4, proposals were exchanged between both bargaining teams with the EPS Bargaining team submitting the last proposal at 5 p.m. The mediator dismissed both bargaining teams at 6:30 p.m. and bargaining will resume tomorrow morning. 

September 3, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 3, bargaining began at 9 a.m. and the EEA bargaining team presented a proposal at noon. The EPS bargaining team responded with non-monetary items at 1:30 p.m. and we were able to reach a tentative agreement on two (2) items. The EPS bargaining team provided a monetary and non-monetary proposal at 5:45 p.m. The mediator dismissed both parties at 8:00 p.m. Bargaining will resume tomorrow morning.

September 1, 2023 Mediation Summary

On September 1, the EPS bargaining team submitted a proposal to the EEA bargaining team. The EEA notified EPS they will have a response at the next bargaining session. 

August 31, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 31, the bargaining teams continued to negotiate and meet with the mediator. The mediator dismissed both parties at 5:30 p.m. 

August 30, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 30, the first day of school was canceled due to the work stoppage.  The bargaining teams met and exchanged proposals but an agreement was not reached.  Schools will be canceled tomorrow due to the continued work stoppage but both teams will continue to bargain. 

August 29, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 29, both EPS and EEA bargaining teams exchanged proposals. A summary of EPS bargaining topics is posted above.

August 28, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 28, the EPS and EEA bargaining teams had a pre-scheduled bargaining time. Both bargaining teams exchanged proposals and will reconvene negotiations tomorrow. 

August 26, 2023 Mediation Summary

The EPS and EEA bargaining teams agreed to add Saturday, August 26 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. as a bargaining date. The EPS and EEA bargaining teams exchanged rationales on multiple items.  The next bargaining session will be Monday, August 28 from 10 a.m - 4 p.m. 

August 25, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 25, the EPS and EEA bargaining teams had a pre-scheduled bargaining time from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The EEA bargaining team submitted a proposal at 11:40 a.m. addressing non-monetary items and providing a rationale for each item. The EPS bargaining team responded with a proposal at 2:00 p.m. regarding non-monetary items also providing a rationale for each item. The EEA bargaining team responded at 3:40 p.m. Both bargaining teams tentatively agreed to multiple non-monetary items. The EPS bargaining team will provide EEA a response tomorrow morning. Bargaining is scheduled from 9 a.m - 4 p.m.

August 23, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 23, the EPS and EEA bargaining teams had a pre-scheduled bargaining time from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The EPS bargaining team expected to receive a proposal by 10 a.m. Both bargaining teams arrived at 9 a.m.  The EEA bargaining team did not provide a proposal today. The EPS bargaining team provided a revised proposal at 1:20 p.m.  


In addition to the already-scheduled bargaining session from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Friday, August 25, the EPS bargaining team offered to bargain both Saturday and Sunday, and the EEA bargaining team agreed to bargain on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

August 22, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 22, the EPS and EEA bargaining teams had a pre-scheduled bargaining time from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The EPS bargaining team began working at 8 a.m. and provided a proposal to the EEA bargaining team at 11:30 a.m. The EEA bargaining team responded with a proposal at 1:45 p.m. and the EPS bargaining team provided a second proposal to the EEA bargaining team at 3:30 p.m. The EEA bargaining team informed the EPS bargaining team that a new proposal would be shared by 10:00 a.m. the following day.

August 21, 2023 Mediation Summary

On August 21, the EPS and EEA bargaining teams met at the pre-scheduled time from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The state mediator first met with both bargaining teams together for introductions and to set expectations for the process. Afterward, the mediator met independently with the bargaining teams for additional information on the status of negotiations. The EEA bargaining team provided a proposal at the end of the scheduled bargaining session. The EPS bargaining team informed the EEA bargaining team a proposal would be shared by 11:30 a.m. the following day.

Dear Evergreen Community,


I’m pleased to share with you that today, the district and the Evergreen Education Association reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. We plan to start school tomorrow with a 2-hour late start. Members of the teachers union will take a ratification vote on the three-year agreement early tomorrow morning. You will find the times that your students’ school day will start tomorrow here. 


Our entire staff and the Board of Directors are excited to welcome our students back into our schools. We realize the delay to the school year has been inconvenient and stressful for our families and staff. I want to thank our community for your patience and understanding through this difficult process.


We will have more information soon on how we will make up the seven days that we missed during the work stoppage. I urge all of us to put the work stoppage behind us and come together as one Evergreen Public Schools, united by the one thing we will always agree on: We are here to serve the cause of educating our students.

Planeamos iniciar el año escolar mañana lunes con un retraso de 2 horas. Los miembros del sindicato de docentes votarán temprano por la mañana para ratificar el contrato de tres años. Мы понимаем, что задержка начала учебного года была неудобной и стрессовой ситуацией для наших семей и сотрудников. No School Tomorrow, September 8, as Teachers Work Stoppage Continues


Dear EPS Community,


There will be no school on Friday, September 8, because of the ongoing teachers work stoppage. The district bargaining team and the Evergreen Education Association continue to negotiate, but have not yet reached an agreement. 


All schools will remain closed during the strike. We will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch for curbside pickup to all EPS students on all school days during the work stoppage. Please see our meals webpages for locations and times.


We know this prolonged delay to the start of the new school year has been frustrating for everyone. Our bargaining team will continue to work diligently to come to an agreement with our teachers that is fair to both sides while being affordable and sustainable under our current budgetary circumstances.

We have been negotiating with the EEA since March, and recent sessions have included a state-assigned mediator. We will continue to bargain with the union until we reach an agreement that is fair to both sides and is affordable and sustainable.

Dear EPS Community,


Due to the ongoing teachers work stoppage/strike there will be no school on Tuesday, September 5. The district bargaining team continues to negotiate with the Evergreen Education Association union, but we have not yet reached an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.


All schools will be closed for the duration of the work stoppage. The district will update the community daily about whether schools will be open the next day. 


We have been negotiating with the EEA since March, and recent sessions have included a state-assigned mediator. We will continue to bargain with the union until we reach an agreement that is fair to both sides and is affordable and sustainable. 


During the work stoppage, we will provide some services to our students and families, including:

Dear EPS Community,

I want to update you on the work stoppage/strike by teachers that has delayed the start of the 2023-24 school year. Negotiations continued Friday, but we have not yet reached an agreement with the Evergreen Education Association.

We are scheduled to continue to bargain with the EEA during the holiday weekend. We will update you by Monday at 4 p.m. on if we will have school on Tuesday, September 5.

The goal is to get our students back in the classroom as quickly as possible. We are committed to reaching an agreement that is affordable, sustainable and fair to both sides within our current budgetary conditions. 

I know this has been a challenging week for students, families and staff. Please have a safe holiday weekend.

EPS Schools Closed Until Further Notice

Tuesday August 29, 2023, 

Due to a teachers work stoppage, Evergreen Public Schools will not begin the school year tomorrow, August 30. Schools will be closed until further notice. 

A strike is a major disruption to the lives of our students, staff, families and school community. The district is committed to continuing to bargain with the Evergreen Education Association (EEA) to reach an agreement that is fair to all and is affordable and sustainable. 

Evergreen Public Schools and the EEA union have been negotiating since March on a new collective bargaining agreement. Despite making progress, we unfortunately have not come to an agreement on the terms of a new contract and have been informed by the teachers union that they will be going on strike starting tomorrow. Today’s back-to-school events will continue as scheduled. 

When the work stoppage/strike begins, our school buildings will be closed. Although schools will be closed during the work stoppage the ASC (district office) will be open from 8am-4pm and some services and activities will continue:

Impact on the academic calendar: School closures caused by a strike are much like weather-related school closures, and those dates must be made up. School will resume after the strike is resolved, and students will receive 180 days of instruction regardless of any delays to the school year. As the result of a strike, make-up days will be negotiated as part of the settlement. We will prepare and distribute a new school calendar at the conclusion of the work stoppage.

While we continue bargaining, we will use multiple modes of communication to alert families when school is back in session, including emails, social media and on the district website. Now is a good time to make sure contact information is up-to-date in Skyward.

Debido a un  paro laboral de los maestros, Escuelas Públicas Evergreen no iniciará el año escolar mañana, 30 de agosto. Las escuelas estarán cerradas hasta nuevo aviso. 

Un paro laboral es una interrupción importante en las vidas de nuestros estudiantes, familias, personal, y comunidad escolar. El distrito está comprometido a continuar las negociaciones con la Asociación de la Educación de Evergreen (EEA, por sus siglas en inglés) para llegar a un acuerdo que sea justo, factible y razonable. 

Escuelas Públicas Evergreen y el sindicato EEA han estado en negociaciones desde marzo para un nuevo convenio colectivo. A pesar de los avances, lamentablemente no hemos llegado a un acuerdo sobre los términos de un nuevo contrato y el sindicato nos informó que a partir de mañana se declarará en huelga. Dear Evergreen Community,

As previously shared, Evergreen Public Schools is facing the possibility that the start of the school year will be delayed because of a strike by our teachers. The teachers’ union officially notified us this morning that they will strike on Wednesday, August 30 if an agreement on a new contract is not reached before then.

The district will continue to negotiate with the EEA union with the goal of reaching an agreement before Wednesday. If there is a strike, our schools will be closed, and the start of the 2023-24 school year will be delayed until a new agreement is reached.


We have been in negotiations with the Evergreen Education Association (EEA), the union that represents 1,500 employees (mostly classroom teachers) since March. The collective bargaining agreement we have with the EEA expires August 31.


The district bargaining team will continue to negotiate with the union to reach an agreement that is fair to both sides and is affordable and sustainable. Starting last week, the sessions have included a mediator appointed by the state's Public Employee Relations Commission.

If the union strikes, schools will remain closed until the work stoppage ends. 

We are required by the state to give students 180 days of instruction each school year, and any classroom days missed during the strike will be added into the school calendar. We are also forming contingency plans to help families receive services they rely on schools for, such as meals, family services and extracurricular activities.

Como se mencionó anteriormente, Escuelas Públicas Evergreen enfrenta la posibilidad de que el inicio del año escolar se demore debido al paro laboral de nuestros maestros. El sindicato nos notificó oficialmente esta mañana que harán huelga a partir del miércoles 30 de agosto si no se llega a un acuerdo sobre un nuevo contrato antes de esa fecha. 


El distrito seguirá negociando con el sindicato EEA con el objetivo de llegar a un acuerdo antes del miércoles. Si se realiza un paro laboral, nuestras escuelas estarán cerradas y el inicio del año escolar 2023-24 será aplazado hasta llegar a un nuevo acuerdo.


Hemos estado en negociación con el sindicato de la Asociación de la Educación de Evergreen (EEA, por sus siglas en inglés) que representa a 1,500 empleados (en su mayoría  maestros) desde marzo. El convenio colectivo con la EEA expira el 31 de agosto.


El equipo del distrito continuará negociando con el sindicato para llegar a un acuerdo justo para ambas partes y que sea factible y razonable. Desde la semana pasada, las sesiones han incluido un mediador designado por la Comisión de Relaciones de los Empleados Públicos del estado.

Dear Evergreen Public Schools Community,


I am reaching out to provide you with an update on a potential work stoppage by members of the Evergreen Education Association (EEA) that could delay the start of the 2023-24 school year currently scheduled to begin on August 30. 


It is the goal of the district and Board of Directors to reach a resolution with EEA before school begins on August 30. If the EEA members vote for a work stoppage, the 180 days of state-required instruction will begin once the work stoppage is over, and days will be added to the calendar.


Bargaining sessions with the EEA, which represents approximately 1,500 certificated professionals (the majority are classroom teachers), began in March. On June 22, the district asked for the EEA to enter into joint mediation. On August 14, the EEA agreed to the joint mediation process. We have been assigned a mediator and negotiations are continuing.


The district remains committed to reaching a fair agreement for both sides that is affordable and sustainable.

Me comunico con ustedes para brindarles una actualización sobre un posible paro laboral por parte de los miembros de la Asociación de la Educación de Evergreen (EEA, por sus siglas en inglés), que podría retrasar el inicio del año escolar 2023-24 y que actualmente está programado para comenzar el 30 de agosto. 


El objetivo del distrito y la Junta Directiva es llegar a una resolución con la EEA antes de que comiencen las clases el 30 de agosto. Si los miembros de la EEA votan por un  cese temporal del trabajo, los 180 días de instrucción requeridos por el estado comenzarán una vez que termine el paro laboral y se agregarán al calendario.


En marzo comenzaron las sesiones de negociación con la EEA, que representa aproximadamente a 1500 profesionales certificados (la mayoría son maestros). El distrito solicitó a la EEA que iniciara una mediación conjunta el 22 de junio. El 14 de agosto, la EEA accedió al proceso de mediación conjunta, fue asignado un mediador y las negociaciones continúan.


El Distrito sigue comprometido a llegar a un acuerdo justo para ambas partes que sea factible y razonable.
