We have ongoing relationships with many of the community partners that past students have worked with and would love to support future students in continuing the important work begun by previous students. We also look forward to matching students with other community partners who are eager to help students learn through real experiences. Some potential ideas that community partners have proposed, which could still be explored by future students include:
An installation on the history of the Casino Road Community for Connect Casino Road (using skills in historical research, art, and communication)
Explore community reactions to measures like newly installed cameras as a way of supporting community-oriented policing in the Everett Police Department
Conduct an "inclusivity audit" for the Everett Boys & Girls Club
Explore how non-profits can increase giving to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ focused organizations or other ways to make philanthropic giving more equitable in coordination with the Community Foundation of Snohomish County
Work with a local school district or PTA on an equity issue like BIPOC parent participation and inclusion or resource guides for LGBTQ+ youth in Snohomish County
Right here at Everett Community College, potential projects include investigating issues like the usage of electric cars/chargers on campus and on pollution, mental health and BIPOC college athletes, or the transition between students who went from Bridges to the Writing Center
In addition, we are eager to expand our focus in years to come to include projects in new areas and approaches that build on student talents and backgrounds, such as:
Art projects that use a medium of your choice as a tool for advocacy (craftivism?), to collect community stories (a collaborative installation?), or to represent diverse perspectives in public spaces (a mural?)
Sustainability projects, such as equity-minded STEM research with a goal of advocacy and awareness, or hands-on projects to bring important resources like native plant installations, rain barrels, or e-waste collection to local communities
Health-focused civic engagement projects to document health disparities in local communities, initiate new community health services like screenings or health fairs, or disperse information about available health-related services, rights, and resources
