Materials: Chromebook, headphones, pencil, dry erase board & marker, assignment booklet, homework folder

Reading: Instruction is planned to meet each child’s needs and follows a curriculum designed to cover Pennsylvania Common Core Standards. We will use a variety of reading texts, articles, and programs on Chromebook throughout the year, not just the usual textbook. Students will be graded on class work, participation, homework, and quizzes/tests.

At School Expectations:

Students will complete lessons in class with the teacher, independently, and supplement learning with learning programs such as Raz-Plus and Study Island. Classwork that is not completed should be finished at home. Students will have one regular homework assignment twice a week – Bookworm. Students read the assigned text out loud to a grown up. You may assist with words, stop for discussion or just enjoy as you are doing another task. Then an adult signs on the line and a comment about your child’s reading is appreciated. Reading with your child is the best way to support your child’s reading progress.

Remote Learning (Online) Expectations:

Students will work on the same objectives on remote days as students who are learning at school. Daily assignments will be posted in the Reading Google Classroom. Work should be completed and turned in each day.

Assignments on Study Island will be assigned for a period of time - usually 15 - 20 minutes. Students will earn credit for effort in completing the task during the assigned time.

Thursdays are Read & Record days. Students are expected to record themselves reading aloud in RazPlus. Students earn a a participation grade and are monitored for their reading progress.
