The A–G requirements are a set of high school courses that students must complete to be eligible for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. These courses are designed to prepare students for college-level academic work.
Students must complete 15 year-long courses (with grades of C or better) across seven subject areas:
A. History / Social Science (2 years)

AP U.S. History or U.S. History and Government
B. English (4 years)
English 9
Honors English 10 or English 10
AP English Language or English 11
AP English Literature or English 12
C. Mathematics (3 years required, 4 recommended)

D. Laboratory Science (2 years required, 3 recommended)

Chemistry or Agriculture Chemistry

G. College-Preparatory Elective (1 year)
Courses must be UC-approved A–G courses.
Students must earn a grade of C or better in each course.
Some courses may meet more than one requirement, but they can only be counted in one category.
Taking more than the minimum requirements is strongly encouraged for competitive colleges.
Completing A–G courses:
Keeps students eligible for UC and CSU admissions
Builds strong academic foundations for college success
Is often required by private and out-of-state universities as well
