We are excited to announce the launch of the Research Skills lessons created specifically for each grade level. Students interact with all kinds of information online, for school and for their personal interests. Based on a Stanford study, most of our students and often the adults as well, don’t have the baseline skills needed to evaluate the quality of the information they are accessing.
The 2021-2022 student survey underscores the need for greater awareness and utilization of credible and accurate sources of information for students and teachers. This is demonstrated by the low number of students who reported accessing our developmentally appropriate and vetted research resources:
For Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade Teachers:
Teacher signs on to the course and completes the lesson as a whole class.
Use your teacher Google account to sign on and launch the whole class lesson.
Timeframe: About 20 to 25 Minutes Total
For Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade Teachers:
Students complete the grade level lesson individually.
This can be completed at school or at home. If students complete this at school, it is best to limit it to small groups due to bandwidth issues.
Timeframe: About 25 to 35 Minutes
After all students complete the lesson, we suggest a whole class discussion.
The student looks for this ICON on their iPad
It looks similar to the Digital Citizenship icon that we used at the beginning of the year but has the words “Research Skills” at the top.
The number in the lower right hand corner identifies the specific grade level the lesson is addressing.
The Third through sixth Grade Students will sign on to the Edpuzzle Program by using their district Google Single Sign On (student id number@eusd.net and their Google password).
