To what extent were developments during the period of 1800-1824 consistent with the vision of Thomas Jefferson and the Republicans, as opposed to the views of Hamilton and the Federalists?
What were the foreign problems faced by America during the Jefferson Administration?
How effective were his responses?
What caused the outbreak of the War of 1812?
Learning Objective:
Students will analyze and evaluate the extent to which developments during the period of 1800-1824 align with the political visions of Thomas Jefferson and the Republicans, as opposed to the perspectives of Alexander Hamilton and the Federalists, through the creation of a newspaper front page that synthesizes key events and policies of the time.
By the end of this lesson, students will work together to create jigsaw presentations on Unit 4. The goal is for each group to explain how the United States changed from 1800 to 1848. Students will cover important stuff like politics, society, and money matters. They'll also talk about key events and people who made a big impact during this time. Through these presentations, students will show what they've learned about how the country's government, identity, and place in the world changed during these nearly 50 years. The aim is for students to practice teamwork, critical thinking, and good communication skills while exploring the history of the U.S. Republic.
