About Mr. Vargas: Juan has lived in Escondido since the age of 10 and has worked in the Escondido Union High School district for 10 years, supporting the community in various roles throughout the years. Escondido holds a special place in his heart and will do what he can to support it's students and community. Juan is married and a proud father of two amazing children. He holds an A.A. in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Palomar college. 

Fun Fact:  His favorite color is light tan.

About Ms. Konia - Monika has worked for the Escondido Adult School for nineteen years, first as a substitute teacher, an algebra teacher, and now, as an ABE/ASE instructor. She earned degrees in Political Science and Literature from UCSD. She also teaches the Visitation Monitoring classes in our Community Education program. Monika enjoys helping her students reach their personal and professional goals.

Fun Fact: I'm a captain of a pirate ship and UC Santa Barbara has all my money.

About Mr. Murphy:  Josh graduated from San Pasqual High School and the University of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He has taught High School Diploma and HiSET/GED preparation courses for Escondido Adult School since 2009. He enjoys teaching and interacting with students from all backgrounds and age groups using an approach that focuses on student engagement and individualized learning practices. Mr. Murphy envisions student success as facilitating the transition of each student to the next step of their career or educational journey. He also serves as a BLS CPR instructor for the school.  

Fun Fact: Mr. Murphy has attended 5 different colleges.

About Mrs. Ruhe:   Tanya has worked in Escondido Adult School’s ABE/ASE program for the last 30 years!  As graduate of SPHS, Palomar College and SDSU, she is a hometown girl!  She specializes in online learning and mathematics.  She loves a good book 📚 and watching movies 🍿🎬.

Tanya enjoys working with adults of all ages and abilities in our high school diploma learning lab.  In this capacity, she addresses the varying needs and learning styles of adult learners from a variety of cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.  Tanya is particularly good at working with students with disabilities and serves as a liaison with the high school district’s Learning Center team.  During the last few years, she served as an integral part of our WASC team.  Tanya is known for having a strong rapport with students and is a connoisseur of the college campus tour!  She is excited to have you in her class and help you transition on to college or wherever life takes you.

Fun Fact:  She was an arm's reach away from The Avengers--especially Chris Hemsworth 💪--at Comic-Con where she held a 3 second conversation with Samuel Jackson. Yes, it was amazing!

About Ms. Tania: Hi y'all! I graduated from Del Lago Academy High School and am now back in college, working toward my B.A. with a focus on health science and first aid. I especially enjoy spending my free time on hikes and long walks, where I find both motivation and joy in being active outdoors. 

Fun fact: Hand mea tomato🍅 I'll eat it like an apple.  I just REALLY like tomatoes🙂

About Mrs.Williams:   Hello! My name is Angel, and I’m excited to join the team! I graduated with a B.A. in Kinesiology from California State University San Marcos in 2013 and earned my Teaching Credential from San Diego State University in 2022. I previously worked in Human Resources at the District Office, and after spending a few years teaching in elementary education, I’m thrilled to return to the district and contribute to adult education. Supporting students as they grow and achieve their goals is something I’m truly passionate about, and I strive to bring positivity to everything I do. 

Fun fact: I love playing video games, reading, and traveling. So far, I’ve visited seven countries—and I can’t wait to add more to the list!

About Mr. Ochoa:  Gerardo  graduated with a BA in Spanish Language from San Diego State University, Gerardo has worked in various roles throughout his professional career. This is Gerardo's first year working in the HiSET program as an instructor, but has worked in the capacity of Instructional Aide for almost 2 years. Gerardo enjoys working with students achieve their goal of completing their High School education.  

Fun Fact:  If you have ever asked Siri to complete a task in either Spanish or English, chances are Gerardo had the pleasure of making sure Siri did exactly what you asked.

About Mr. Gonzalez:  Jesus Gonzalez has been an enthusiastic and passionate teacher across many subject areas for many years at all levels: high school, middle school, and elementary. He started in Mexico at the beginning of his career, teaching in the University as a Literature Spanish and ESL professor. In the USA, He taught in Los Angeles Unified School district, as a bilingual teacher, worked in New Orleans Spanish Teaching Program, and after that, spent 20 years in Chicago Illinois as a Spanish and ESL Teacher.

As for high school equivalency experience, Jesus taught a GED high school diploma program in Spanish at Elgin Community College. Mr. Gonzalez started  at EAS as a substitute teacher in 2018. He currently teaches ESL and Bilingual HiSET classes here. He has a bachelor’s degree in Education, Two Master’s degrees, one in Leadership Educational programs, (Chicago National Louis University), and a Master of Arts in Bilingual Education (Illinois State University).

About Ms. Rojas:  I began my higher education at a local community college and transferred to California State University San Marcos, where I completed my B.S in Business Administration. As a first-generation, low-income student, I encountered many obstacles but, with the help of teachers and counselors, I was able to navigate the education ladder. Let me help you begin your career and/or college pathway.

I have been working for Escondido Adult School for the past six years, supporting the various programs we offer. My goal is to cultivate a supportive environment where students can discover their interests and continuously set and reach their goals.

In my free time, I love exploring the nature around us, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Fun Fact:  I love hiking and have trail blazed 5 National Parks!

About Mrs. Magallon: Hi! I am excited to serve as the new Disability Support Counselor for the surrounding adult schools. I am mainly housed at Vista Adult School but also serve students at Escondido, Poway, Ramona, and San Marcos Adult Schools. Previously, I served as an academic counselor for fifteen-plus years at a high school level in the Central Valley and before that, I worked briefly between two elementary sites as the school counselor.   

Some of my favorite hobbies are taking walks with my husband and our two fur babies, grabbing a Starbucks and going on a drive, weekend trips to the coast, hot yoga, gardening, and family time. 

Fun Fact:  I was part of the first group of college students that was awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship.

About Ms. Heredia:  Hi! 👋 My name is Lea Heredia. I am your Career & Externship Advisor for Escondido Adult School.

I assist students with processing and completing their externship placements with new and existing business partners throughout Escondido and San Diego county.

I have worked for the Escondido Unified School District for eighteen years. First as a Social Science teacher, then as a Teacher on Special Assignment, and now, as a Career & Externship Advisor for Escondido Adult School. I earned multiple degrees in History, Spanish, Social Science Education, and Education Technology from CSUSM, Korea University, and SDSU. I thoroughly enjoy helping students reach their personal and professional goals.

I also enjoy spending time traveling the world with my family. I love caring for my two Pomeranians and the specialty goldfish I raise in my backyard ponds.🐩🐟
