Euclid Middle School Orchestra
Mrs. Thomas started playing the violin when she was seven years old. She chose the violin when a gentleman named Mr. Flanek came to her 2nd grade class and played the violin. She fell in love with the beautiful sound and that very same day, she ran home from school to ask her mom and dad if she could take violin lessons. They said yes right away. Mrs. Thomas played in many different orchestras all the way through high school and graduated, sadly, thinking that her time playing the violin was over.
While attending college at Cleveland State University, she discovered they had a symphony orchestra there and that she could play in it. That made the decision to study music an easy choice. She switched her major to Music Education and that put her on the path to becoming a music teacher.
Mrs. Thomas began teaching in the Euclid City Schools in 1996. She was hired as substitute teacher for middle school choir and general music. The next year she filled in for a high school choir teacher for half of the year. Her big break came in 1998 when the position of elementary /middle school orchestra teacher opened up. From that day till now, she has been helping Euclid’s children find their joy in making music.
When not in the classroom with her students, you will find Mrs. Thomas in her garden or in the kitchen. She and her husband of almost 30 years have a son they adore and a soon to be daughter in law. They all play or have played music together and will never stop searching for reasons to perform.
