2003 - R Mark Higgins
Mark was born & raised in Western Kentucky. After serving in the U.S Coast Guard, he graduated from Florida International Univiersity in Miami with a BBS in marketing and insurance. Mark moved to Seminole in 1980 to begin his career as a new State Farm Agent here. Mark retired after 33 years serving the Seminole Community.
Mark is a past director & president of the Kiwanis Club of Seminole, past director and president of the Seminole Chamber of commerce. He served on numerous community events committees , including the Miss Seminole Pageant, Seminole Youth Athletic League,Kids Day in the Park, Music in the Park, the Fall Festival, Seminole Pow Wow, as well as many other worthwhile community events.
In 1994, while president of the chamber of commerce, he helped cut the ribbon on the 102nd Ave bridge over Lake Seminole, opening up a major corridor joining the Seminole community to I-275 and beyond. Higgins had championed that cause as Transportatin Committee chair for the Chamber for years leading up to the opening.
Mark was a founding member and a prime organizer of the Seminole Tuesday Club. He helped form the club's purpose of awareness of political, social and business issues for its members. He was also co chair of the committee that helped bring muralist Tom Stovall to paint the Seminole Water Tower Mural of indigenous wild birds. It was to be the first publicly funded public art project by Pinellas County Commission.
