1986 - Jimmy Johnson
Jimmy Johnson moved to Seminole in 1979. He was born in North Carolina and was transferred by K-Mart Corp to the Seminole K-Mart after a stint in the USAF during Vietnam War.
Jimmy Johnson was a Charter Member of Seminole Lake Rotary in 1980. He helped organize first Kid's Appreciation Day in 1979 and later was instrumental in Chamber having Teacher of the Year Award (later changed to Educator Appreciation Breakfast).
Unlike most chain or “big box” store managers, as the manager of our local K-Mart, Jimmy was totally dedicated to the community of Seminole and never used the term “that is a corporate decision and I can’t help you”. He would take the responsibility himself and the local project would be completed.
After he retired from K-Mart, Jimmy served the Seminole area as Executive Director of the Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce and helped guide the organization through several trying times. The bi-weekly meetings of the Chamber were always exciting and interesting with Jimmy at the helm. He had a special fondness for the “little ol' ladies” and children.
He also perceived a need for leadership in the City of Seminole and served several terms as the Mayor of Seminole.
