Claude D. McMullen was born in Clearwater. Both Claude’s Mother and Grandmother were born in Seminole.
Claude opened his first office in Seminole March 1, 1971, after serving as Base Optometrist at Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia. Claude’s great grandfather, William Marshall Cobb, pastured his herd of beef cattle where the Seminole Campus of St. Petersburg College is now located. Grandfather, Claude Whittle planted a citrus grove on the property that ran north from 86th Avenue, North from Seminole Boulevard to 113th Street. His maternal grandparents lived in a two-story residence on the corner of the property at Seminole Boulevard and 86th Avenue where he worked work in the citrus groves over the summer vacation as a teenager.
Claude McMullen was the
President of the Rotary Club of Seminole, 1974-1975.
President of the Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce, 1979.
President of Pinellas Society of Optometrists.
Provided vision screening for Kindergarten children for many years on a volunteer basis.
Gave free vision exams and eyewear for families unable to pay for the service.
Worked on the committee to fund the Boy Scouts.
Worked on the committee to raise $50,000 to install a community swimming pool for the youth of Seminole on the grounds of Seminole Middle School.
Many civic and service projects in the community of Seminole.
