Please complete the following introductory lessons before the new school year starts. This will provide you with context as we start to dive into the AP World curriculum.

For this summer assignment, students should complete the following:
1) First, review the AP Modern World History Basics Presentation, which overviews some of the key terminology we will be using this year as well as an overview of the foundations of the AP Modern World History Exam (link)
2) Review and take notes on the AP Unit 0 Presentation Part 1, which will cover Major Classical Empires (like the Persians, Greeks, Romans, etc.) before 1200 (link)
3) Review and take notes on the AP Unit 0 Presentation Part 2, which will cover major Classical religions (like Judaism, Hinduism, etc.) before 1200 (link)
4) Review and take notes on the AP Unit 0 Presentation Part 3, which covers Classical trade routes (like the Silk Road, etc.) before 1200 (link)
5) Students are also encouraged to take a look at, complete the attached reading questions, and consider taking in one or more of the pre-1200 AP World video lectures posted below as well as Chapter 1: Before 1200: Patterns in World History from our Ways of the World textbook. If you are not able to pick up a textbook before summer, a copy of this first chapter in Ways of the World is available below as a PDF.

6) Each of the video lectures below gives an abbreviated view of world history before 1200 and gives context for our first unit of study when the course begins.
7. For later reference, students should also take a moment to look over the basic AP World Geography maps that go along with all aspects of the course. More information on the Geography component of the course will come once we get into the course itself:

9. Students are also encouraged (once you know if you will be taking AP World on an A-Day or B-Day to sign up for and browse the AP Classroom platform provided by the College Board. Students should have received the sign-up code needed for AP Classroom with their Summer Assignment email from Mr. H.
