Taiwan School Mission Statement

Taiwan School of Taiwanese American Center - celebrating and preserving Taiwanese culture, spirit and heritage by providing the community with instruction of the many arts and languages of Taiwan.

Language Courses:  We offer multiple tracks of Traditional Chinese courses for Kindergarten to 12th grade students.  Materials include DVD, textbooks, and word cards.  We follow “Standards for Foreign Language Learning” and “National Assessment Educational Progress Framework” with five principles—communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, communities–as the teaching methods.

Living Mandarin: Living Mandarin is for students with some Mandarin exposure through Mandarin-speaking environment at home.  This courses teaches students Mandarin through listening, speaking, and singing. Students develop the ability to speak, recognize, and write Chinese characters. 

CSL (Chinese as a Second Language): CSL is for students with a non-Mandarin speaking environment at home.  This courses teaches students Mandarin through listening, speaking, and singing. Students develop the ability to speak and recognize Chinese characters. 

Taiwanese Course: We offer a Taiwanese language course for students of all ages who would like to understand and speak Taiwanese. Our『Hoklo Taiwanese』course uses the tones of direct phonics, and the use of cartoons to engage the imagination of our students. The class starts with daily life rhymes, extends to Taiwanese language and words, and then uses the reading of musical rhymes and hand gestures to teach the tones of the Taiwanese language. The course material is well structured, balanced, lively, and interesting.

Taiwan School celebrates and promotes Taiwanese cultural heritage and the spirit of Taiwan, and we offer many programs in art, culture, fitness, and spiritual counseling.

台灣學校宗旨

台灣學校以推廣『華文教育』、『保存母語』，薪傳『台灣文化』、『台灣精神』為宗旨。

『華文教育』: 提供雙軌道繁體華文課程給學前教育至12年級的學童：生活華語課程及CSL(華文為第二語言)課程。使用教材包括音碟、影碟及字卡。遵循「標準外語學習法 

」及「全國教育進展評估架構」的教育方式，且運用溝通、文化、連接、比較、社區的五原則。

生活華語課程對象為在家有講華文機會的學生而設：以說聽為導向，由「聽說唱」導出「讀寫作」，以認讀為主，寫作漢字為次。

CSL課程對象為在家沒有講華文機會的學生而設：以說聽辨識為導向，由「聽說唱認字」導出「讀」。

『保存母語』: 提供台語課程給想認識台語的學生無年齡限制，聲調採用直接拼讀法，並採用漫畫，陪養學生的想像力。從日常生活唸謠出發，延伸出台語及語詞，再從音樂性唸謠，延伸出台語的聲調手勢，課程活潑有趣。

為了薪傳『台灣文化』與『台灣精神』，我們更提供許多民俗、文化、健身、心靈輔導及課業輔導課程。
