The ESU 5 Tech Department is always focused on the online security of our schools and making sure users and data are protected. Each ESU 5 school has a Firewall in which all Internet traffic flows through. This device will help to block viruses, botnets, intrusions, crypto-lockers and many other security attacks. Over any 48 hour period the ESU 5 Firewall alone will block 8,000-10,000 High to Critical attacks and another 600-1000 Critical Anomalies.
Though we block what we can from the firewalls, there are always things that will get through. The biggest concern is phishing emails. Fake emails trying to trick users into clicking on malicious links or giving out your email credentials is the biggest issue we see on a continuous basis. Having knowledge of who is sending you the email and if the request for information is valid can protect you from these malicious phishing attempts. If there is ever a concern whether or not an email is legitimate, don't be afraid to reach out to your tech staff or have them reach out to the ESU 5 Tech Department if they are unsure as well.
