Writing Resources for First-Year Composition at EMCC
Welcome to the Writing Resources for first year composition
In an effort to provide high-quality, flexible, and affordable resources, the Arts & Composition Division has compiled digital resources for you to use in your ENG101 and ENG102 classes.
How to Use this Site
ENG101 and ENG 102: The pages for each course have been organized based on the MCCCD Official Course Outlines. Textbook chapters, articles, and webpages have been linked and organized based on topic. Most topics have several links listed, so you can choose the type of resource that will fit your students' needs best.
Writing Types: These pages (also available from the ENG101 page) contain textbook chapters, articles, and videos for common writing types or modes that you might use in academic writing such as analysis, compare and contrast, proposing and solution, and more.
Grammar and Style: The mechanics and craft of writing should be present in all writing courses, so we have separated this section so that you may use any resources in either class.
Readings: We have cultivated a list of potential readings to use as models of writing and/or resources in analysis and critical reading practices. As with the Grammar and Style page, you may use the Readings page for either class.
Full Resources: Websites and OER textbooks have been cannibalized to create this site. However, you may choose to use just one textbook or YouTube playlist to guide the course. We have included the main links to the fuller versions of the sources used on the ENG101 and ENG102 pages for that reason.
