About  Mrs. Fullenwider

I have been teaching in Estacada for 20+ years.  I’ve had the opportunity to teach at three schools within our district:  Language Arts at the Junior High, 1st-6th at River Mill, and 1st grade at Clackamas River before becoming our district’s elementary Instructional Coach in 2016.  Before coming to Estacada, I taught middle school students in two other school districts.    I’m very proud to be a part of the Estacada School District team and the Estacada community!   Go Rangers!

My job as an Instructional Coach

Teaching requires a broad knowledge of subject matter, teaching strategies, curriculum, and standards; enthusiasm, a caring attitude, patience, and a love of learning; knowledge of discipline and classroom management techniques; and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people.  The list is endless!  It is my hope, as an instructional coach, to help teachers master each and every one of these requirements!

The most simple definition of an instructional coach is a professional who is trained in how to help teachers become more effective in the classroom so that students improve in their academic performance.  Coaches do this by helping teachers learn how to use  “evidence-based” practices. That is, coaches help teachers utilize practical teaching strategies to more effectively engage students and to maximize academic outcomes.  It is my job to be knowledgeable with research based teaching strategies and assist teachers in implementing them into their classrooms.

As an Instructional coach, I frequently collaborate with teachers to get a clear picture of their current reality, identify instructional goals, select teaching strategies to meet the goals, monitor progress, and problem solve until the goals are met.  In addition, I am constantly observing teachers in action, offering feedback and posing questions for teachers to reflect upon their practice.   Most of my instructional coaching is carried out within the classroom, so teachers can learn to put strategies into place, making their instruction more effective and ultimately increase student learning.

Another aspect of my coaching role is to provide professional development and resources to all teachers in a given area.  Providing professional development, facilitating collaboration walks and teacher teacher inquiry teams are areas that I will be expanding upon in the upcoming school year.  I'm excited to build and reflect upon the expertise of our teachers!
