As the games begin, Katniss quickly realizes that survival will be difficult. She forms an alliance with Rue, a young tribute from District 11, and they work together to gather food and supplies. However, Rue is eventually killed by another tribute, which sends Katniss into a rage.

This chapter also introduces us to some of the more ruthless tributes, such as Cato and Clove, who are willing to do whatever it takes to win the games. The action really heats up in this chapter, as the tributes start to turn on each other and the stakes become higher.
