Important information on courses

- Exchange students can take a maximum of 5 courses during the term (including language and intensive courses). Students who are asked to register for more than 5 courses by their home institution must ask their home coordinator to send us an email with the number of credits and/or contact hours they need for their degree.

- Double degree students can take a maximum of 8 courses ( max. 7 management courses + 1 intensive week course) each term (including language and intensive courses).

- European Management Track (EMT) students can take a maximum of 5 courses during the term (including language courses). Students who are asked to register to more than 5 courses by their home institution must ask their home coordinator to send us an email with the number of credits and/or contact hours they need for their degree.

Exchange, double degree and EMT students have priority when signing up online for their courses (you will register before ESSEC full-time students.)

Exchange and double degree students have access to all courses from the Master in Management, however, the following courses are not open to exchange students:

- the core courses: Management Control, Financial Accounting & Reporting and Principles of Finance

- the course “Financial Statement Analysis”

- the course “Advanced Options”

- the course “Big Data Analytics”

- the course "Corporate Financial Management" during Fall term

- the course "Mergers & Acquisition" during Fall term

- courses from some Chairs (mention “reserved” or “reserve” indicated on the timetable)

All ESSEC business courses (including intensive courses)  = 25 Contact Hours (2.5 hours a week during 10 weeks) = 5 ECTS (European Credits)

All ESSEC language courses = 30 Contact Hours (3 hours a week during 10 weeks) = 4 ECTS (European Credits)

Some courses demand a pre-requisite course (those with a (P) on the column “Comments" of the timetable).

- Exchange and double degree students: while we do not require an official proof but students must make sure they have sufficient knowledge to attend the course by reading carefully the syllabus. To know which pre-requisite is required, please refer to the course catalog or the online syllabus. For instance, the course “Advanced Excel for Managers” is an advanced course so students who only have a basic knowledge of Excel should not take it

Some intensive weeks are scheduled each term. During these weeks, several business courses are offered in English and in French. A course taken during these weeks is worth the same amount of credits (5) and contact hours (25) as any other course scheduled during the term. The only difference is that this course is taken intensively during one week (5 hours a day, from Monday to Friday). Students who choose not to attend a course during the intensive weeks will be on holidays.

IMPORTANT: since all courses during that week are taught on the same day at the same time, students can only attend one.

*Not open to EMT students

Students can choose to take French language courses during the term/year. Upon arrival, your French level will be assessed with a test. Language courses are counted among the maximum of courses students are allowed to take.

IMPORTANT: auditing a course at ESSEC is not allowed, even for language courses. So if you do not need the credits for your degree but still wish to take a language course, please note that you must be officially registered for the course, attend all the sessions and take all the exams and assignments. It concerns all kind of courses including the French Training Session.

A course can only open if a minimum number of students are registered in it. In case a course has to be closed for that reason, students will be informed and asked to choose another one instead.
