Q. Does my student need a physical exam?
A. Physical Exams are required at the elementary school level for grades K, 1, 3 & 5. The physical exam should be no older than July 1st of the previous school year (For the 25/26 school year, physicals dated after 7/1/2024 are valid). A copy of the form is at the bottom of this page.
Q. Does my student need any vaccines?
A. At the elementary schools kindergarten is the only grade that has required vaccines. Typically at this age they need MMR, varicella, dtap & polio vaccines, but it all depends on what vaccines the child has already received. Before your student starts kindergarten contact their pediatrician to make sure they are up to date.
Q. How to I know when to keep my child home?
A. The document at the left provides guidance on keeping your child home. Aside from the defined reasons for absence we ask that you try to find the balance between allowing your child to stay home and rest if they are obviously unwell and pushing them to make it through if they are only a little under the weather (especially if attendance is a concern). If you're ever unsure of what to do contact the school nurse.
Q. My student has an injury, how do I make sure they're staying safe at school?
A. Students with serious injuries should bring a note from the doctor detailing what they are (or are not) allowed to do in terms of physical activity. Your student's safety is my priority! Not sure if your student's injury is "serious" enough to warrant a note? Use these criteria: Did the injury require casting, splinting or wrapping at a doctors office? Did the doctor order mobility equipment such as a brace, crutches, a knee scooter, a walking boot, etc? Does your student have a broken bone?
Please email Fremont Attendance if your child is going to be absent at FRAttendance@esmschools.org
