ES Metis works with organizations to understand how GIS technology supports broader business and operational needs.
Experience includes:
Enterprise GIS strategy and technology planning
Esri platform and application environments
Esri Utility Network and UPDM
GIS application and workflow design
Functional requirements and use cases
Business rules and acceptance criteria
GIS and asset management integration
Technology and solution evaluation
Vendor and product evaluation
Alignment between GIS, IT, engineering, operations, and business teams
The focus is on more than selecting or configuring technology. A successful GIS solution needs to support the way people actually work.
Data is often where the difference between a technically successful implementation and a successful operational implementation becomes clear.
ES Metis brings experience across the spatial data lifecycle, including:
Data assessment and profiling
Data cleaning and standardization
Schema and data model alignment
Transformation and ETL workflows
Spatial data migration
Source-to-target validation
QA/QC and exception reporting
Data reconciliation
Migration testing and validation
Identification of root causes and responsible parties
A discrepancy isn't necessarily a migration problem.
It may originate in the source data, a transformation rule, a mapping decision, the migration process, the target system, or an underlying business requirement.
ES Metis approaches data validation with that distinction in mind.
Source → Transformation → Migration → Target
The objective isn't simply to identify that something doesn't match. It's to understand what happened, why it happened, and what needs to happen next.
GIS implementations involve far more than technology.
They require business requirements, technical decisions, data, workflows, vendors, users, and organizational expectations to remain aligned throughout the project.
ES Metis provides practical expertise across that space, including:
Requirements and design reviews
Workflow and business-process alignment
Deliverable and milestone reviews
Project controls and implementation governance
Risk, issue, action, and change management
Vendor and client coordination
GIS and operational alignment
Data and migration validation
Targeted technical analysis and troubleshooting
Acceptance testing and validation
Operational transition and project closeout
The role isn't necessarily to run the project or replace the project manager.
It's to understand what the project is trying to accomplish, recognize when something isn't right, and step in where the right expertise can prevent a problem from becoming an expensive one.
Find problems while they're still cheap to fix.
GIS projects sit at the intersection of business needs, technology, data, and people.
That creates opportunities for things to get lost in translation.
ES Metis works across those boundaries—understanding what the organization is trying to accomplish, translating those needs into something technology teams can act on, and evaluating whether the resulting solution actually works in practice.
Business → Requirements → Technology → Data → Implementation → Users
The goal is to keep those pieces connected throughout the lifecycle of the project.
ES Metis is led by Edward So, a GIS and geospatial technology professional with more than 15 years of experience spanning enterprise GIS, spatial data systems, utility and environmental applications, product-oriented delivery, and technology implementation.
That experience provides a perspective that is both technical and operational: understanding the technology while keeping sight of the people, workflows, and business objectives it is supposed to support.
Technology is only successful when it works in the real world.
