ES Metis was founded to help organizations get more value from their GIS and geospatial technology investments.
After more than 15 years working across GIS, spatial data, enterprise technology, and operational environments, I saw a recurring problem: projects can have capable people and good technology, yet still struggle because the pieces don't stay connected.
Business needs get lost between teams. Requirements aren't clear enough. Data doesn't behave as expected. Technology doesn't quite match the workflow. Problems surface late, when they're expensive to fix. And sometimes a project is considered finished simply because something was delivered.
ES Metis exists to help close those gaps.
The goal is straightforward: understand what the organization needs, establish a practical path to achieve it, and help make sure the resulting solution actually works in the real world.
I’m Edward So, Founder and Principal Consultant of ES Metis.
I bring more than 15 years of experience in GIS and geospatial technology, with work spanning enterprise GIS, spatial data systems, utility and environmental applications, product-oriented delivery, and technology implementation.
My experience has put me at the intersection of business users, GIS professionals, technology teams, vendors, and project leadership. I've worked with the details of GIS and spatial data while also working across the broader processes and decisions that determine whether those systems are successful.
That perspective is central to how I work.
I don't need to be the person configuring every system or managing every task to add value. I need to understand what the organization is trying to accomplish, know enough about the technology to recognize when something isn't right, and know where to step in to help move things forward.
ES Metis is intentionally structured around direct involvement.
When you work with me, you work directly with the person doing the analysis, making the recommendations, and taking responsibility for the work. There aren't layers of consultants between the client and the expertise they hired.
The level of involvement can vary depending on the project. I may help establish requirements at the beginning, provide targeted implementation oversight, analyze a specific technical or data problem, or help validate and close out a project.
What doesn't change is the approach:
Understand what matters. Define how to achieve it. Make sure you got there.
Good consulting isn't about creating another layer of management. It's about bringing the right expertise to the points where it can make a difference—and being accountable for the result.
