Students will:
Exchange ideas about the global water cycle, pollution, water security, and climate change with their peers.
Support their ideas with facts to help others understand their perspective.
Survey community members to learn which water security issues are most important to them.
Present and reflect on the survey results in an infographic.
Give feedback to their international peers.
Earth is the only planet in our solar system with water that’s readily available. The 8 billion people who live on Earth share the small amount of water that is available because, just like the air we breathe, water moves across borders to connect cities and countries. This means that the way each of us treats water matters for everyone.
The pollution we create locally impacts our water security and the water security of our global neighbors near and far.

RESEARCH:
Purpose: Congratulations! You are the new leader (President) of Harmony Island. Harmony Island has water security challenges, and you will make choices to address them. This island has three regions:
o Beachside
o Forestview
o Rivertown.
Goal: improve water security for all Harmony Island's residents. The choices you make about each region will impact Harmony Island's people, economy, ecosystems, and ability to prepare for the impacts of climate change. Some choices will help some regions of the island but may harm others. You will encounter 4 water security challenges.
How to Play: You will earn or lose water security points for each region based on your decisions. To help you decide, think about what you learned about access to safe water and responsible water use. You can also think about water security issues and strategies. Beware! Climate change increases the frequency and intensity of extreme weather. There will be one Climate Hazard that will impact water security in some or all the regions on Harmony Island. One or more of the regions may lose water security points.
How to Win: Harmony Island will become water-secure when each region achieves a minimum of 1 water security point.
