East Shoreline Catholic Academy Family Service Hours Requirement 2022-2023
The following information reviews the Service Volunteer Hour Requirement/ Spirit of Volunteerism for all ESCA families:
Volunteerism instills commitment. Volunteerism is a cornerstone of Catholic Schools and our parent commitment to ESCA. The key to any successful school is the ownership and effort that people collectively put into it-- staff, parents, and families. It is for this reason that all ESCA families are requested to complete a required number of service volunteer hours per year or opt to pay a yearly fee.
ESCA families are encouraged and responsible for completing ten approved service volunteer hours per year. Unfulfilled service volunteer hours are billed at $50.00/hour per family via FACTS.
Service Volunteer opportunities are posted in weekly HAA and STREAM newsletters via email. Often a link will be provided to sign up to volunteer for an event.
For the school year 2022-2023, families have a commitment option:
A. Pay a $500 yearly fee through the FACTS account in lieu of volunteer hours OR
B. Work ten approved service/volunteer hours at a rate of $50--CREDIT ONLY, per hour. (Credit to FACTS account only).
The following are guidelines to assist you in completing volunteer hours:
1. All hours are to be completed by May 8, 2023. Field day 2023 hours will be credited after May 15 billing date. Unfulfilled hours will be billed on May 15, 2023.
2. Per the Archdiocese guidelines, every volunteer serving in a position where he/she may have regular contact with children must undergo a background check which includes a check of criminal convictions. No individual shall be permitted to volunteer in any position where there may be regular contact with children or young people without undergoing this background check and attending our archdiocese Virtus Program. Virtus may be completed online and is approximately 1 hour.
3. Volunteers must follow the guidelines for a positive, safe, educational/volunteer climate.
4. The administration reserves the right to accept or decline any volunteer service. Donations of classroom cupcakes, bottled water, or classroom volunteers are not part of the spirit of the volunteer hours.
5. Chaperoning on field trips does not count toward service hours fulfillment.
6. Service hour commitment per family will be reviewed and determined by the ESCA School Board each year.
7. Volunteer hours will be tracked and monitored by the main office, HAA members, and event chairs.
8. Approved service/volunteer opportunities may include but are not limited to HAA-sponsored events, coaching athletics, working with drama productions, working with robotics teams, parent ambassadorships, facilities improvements and repairs, board and committee memberships, and lunchroom assistance.
