Brigance Developmental Screener
Must be completed within the first 45 days of student enrollment, after 3 weeks of instruction
Administer in the student’s primary language (contact Ed Specialist if a translator is needed)
Use a Chronological Age Calculator to determine the data sheet needed.
Gather the appropriate age data sheet and materials required for the screener as noted in the manual
Complete section A of the child’s data sheet
Steps for Scoring using the Screens III Scoring Tool
Enter the name, birthday, and date tested.
Then enter the scores.
Give the Data sheets upon completion to your Education Specialist.

Brigance Developmental Screener
Fill out the top portion of the scoring sheet in its entirety.
Administer, using the instructions in the Brigance booklet.
If the child can do the task, circle the number beside the task.
If the child is unable to do the task, put a slashed line through the number.
Do not “teach” the tasks. We need to know if they can do it on their own.
When finished, give the scoring sheet to your Education Specialist.
Must be completed within the first 45 days of school.
When the scoring sheet is returned with a score, use the Brigance Tip Sheet to complete the Brigance Results Form.
Send the Brigance Results Form home with the enclosed Parent Letter within one week of getting the results.
Brigance Self-Help and Social-Emotional Screener
Use the provided copy of the Teacher Form ( can also be found on pg. 83 in the Brigance Manual).
Ask the parent questions during the first home visit.
If not done at the first home visit, the Parent Form can be sent home to the parents. This is only to be done if unavoidable.
Ensure the top portion of the form is filled out in its entirety.
Give the completed form to your Education Specialist.
