School Improvement Grants

The Title I, 1003 School Improvement Grant (SIG) provides funds, supplemental to the Title I, Part A funds, to LEAs applying on behalf of the district’s Comprehensive Support and Improvement schools.

LEAs who have one or more Title I served schools identified on the Comprehensive Support and Improvement School Eligibility List are eligible to apply.

Campus Allocation Tool (Excel, 36KB)

The Campus Allocation Document is due via email to alice.keller@tea.texas.gov with the subject line “<District Name> SIG Campus Allocation Document“ by October 23rd. If the LEA has not completed the grant application by October 23rd it is due within one week of submitting the grant application.

Guidance on 2019-2020 Carryover and 2020-2021 Allocations

2019-2020 School Improvement Grant

  • All remaining funds will carry over to the 2020-2021 SIG as long as the district has at least one Title I served Comprehensive support and improvement campus.

  • 2019-2020 SIG grant will have final reports due October 30, 2020.

  • All remaining funds will then be moved by Grants Administration to 2020-2021 SIG.

  • District will have to amend its 2020-2021 SIG in eGrants to receive the rollover funds when they become available.

  • These funds may be used to support Instructional Continuity through ESF Essential Action 4.1, curriculum and curricular resources for all students. Districts would be able to use SIG funds to support its instructional continuity plan for its Title I comprehensive campuses or campuses within one level of a comprehensive campus as long as it is Title I.

  • Final Amendment date was July 2, 2020


2020-2021 School Improvement Grant

  • Pre-Award costs to August 1, 2020

  • Anticipated application posting September 9, 2020

  • Anticipated application closing November 13, 2020

Allocation and Methodology

  • Allocations are given to LEAs are based on the number of Title I, Comprehensive Identified campuses served.

  • Excludes School Action Fund implementation grantees

  • TTIPS Cycle 4 and Cycle 5 grantees will be eligible for 2020-2021 SIG

  • Kleberg will still be identified as Comprehensive. However, TEA is still determining how to categorize Re-identified campuses like Kleberg as either Identified or Progress to determine campus allocations.

  • Campus allocations are based on campus enrollment, therefore, preliminary funding allocations show that Kleberg could receive $200,000 if labeled Identified, or $100,000 if labeled Progress.
