ELAR Essay Policy Change
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) made a TSIA2 Test Administration Policy Change. As of January 3, 2023, students scoring at Level 3 on the ELAR diagnostic test are now being routed to the essay. This change increases the amount of data available to colleges in determining appropriate developmental education courses or intervention placements for high school students. In addition, the new policy gives many more students an opportunity to demonstrate writing proficiency and potentially qualify for the stand-alone ELAR CRC retest option.
