CODE OF CONDUCT AND RESPONSIBILITY 

Each student is expected to accept responsibility for their actions, respect the rights of others, comply with the directions of school staff, and follow the rules and regulations of the school. The responsibility to follow school rules extends to students' conduct to and from school, in and outside of the school building, and during all school-related activities.

Students at John Read Middle School take care of self, others, and our community by demonstrating standards of personal conduct and responsibility including:

• Using respectful language when communicating with members of the school community (fellow students, teachers, staff members, bus drivers, etc.). 

• Being courteous. 

• Treating others with kindness, compassion, generosity, and a forgiving spirit. 

• Respecting and celebrating differences. 

• Showing courage by doing the right thing in the face of difficulty. Following my conscience instead of the crowd. Standing up for others. Acting as an upstander.

• Respecting others at all times. Even when it feels like a difficult task. 

• Cooperating with classmates, teachers, staff, and administrators. 

• Being responsible and accountable in word and deed.  Fulfilling assigned responsibilities/tasks in a timely manner. 

• Being trustworthy.  Telling the truth and accepting responsibility for my actions. 

• Demonstrating intellectual integrity by submitting only my own work.

• Taking time to think before I respond.

• Pursuing schoolwork with determination and best effort. 

• Demonstrating pride in our school. 

• Dressing appropriately for school.
