Social Dance with Mrs Thomson

This week we have started learning some traditional Scottish dances in PE. In this block, we are aiming to make our movements better. We are also developing our ability to listen to and follow instructions, all while having lots of fun! So far, we have learned the Canadian Barn Dance and the Military Two Step. Up next is the Virginia Reel and the St Bernard's Waltz, amongst other popular ceilidh dances.

To start, we learned the moves without music. Then we tried them with a slowed down version of the traditional music, before picking up the tempo and dancing at the correct speed. After that, we used matched our new moves to more modern pop songs which was great fun. We're looking forward to sharing these dances with P3a at our Christmas party later this term!

Science with Mrs Thomson

In what way do plants and animals depend on each other for food? We explored examples of food chains and showed an appreciation of how living things need each other to survive. We learned about how energy from the sun can be taken in by plants. We discussed the role of plants as producers who provide the major source of food for all living things. We worked in small groups to make food chains, before drawing our own in our jotters. We were challenged to make our food chains more complex by including four or more parts, and by adding key vocabulary including 'consumer', 'predator' and 'prey'.

Fitness with Mrs Thomson

For the first half of November, we used Fitness as a context for improving our level of fitness. We also developed our ability to achieve personal goals by setting targets and working towards them. The children were very motivated, with many seeking out modifications to make what they were doing even more challenging.

During this block, we completed a variety of different exercises in different ways. We experimented with the length of time, as well as the amount of repetitions and commented on the impact on our bodies when we did so. At the end of the block, we designed our own fitness circuits for a partner. You can see some photos of us working together below!

World Faiths Bundle

with Miss Maybury

Exploring Buddhist and Sikh artefacts.

This month our class bundle combined RME with drama as we learned about some key beliefs by listening to and telling stories.

We explored compassion in Buddhism, generosity in Sikhism, worship in Islam and good over coming badness in Hinduism.

We listened to some of the personal experiences of our classmates, and asked them questions about their own religion.

Our class also explored different ways to use our voice and movements in order to express different moods and characteristics.

In groups we created short plays. Some of these were about being compassionate, or giving to those who have less,

Buddhist Meditation and Mindfulness: we carefully coloured our mandalas while listening to soothing music.
