Characteristics of a Runner

Work Ethic: demonstrates the skill to work hard under different weather conditions and circumstances

Self Discipline: chooses to develop positive habits of training, eating, and sleeping

Commitment to Goals: makes it a priority to write down and define clear goals for the season; holds self and teammates accountable

Sportsmanship/Character : represents our school, family, and community with “class” at all times and never sacrifices principles of integrity and character for “winning”

Mental Toughness: embraces the opportunity to run uncomfortably at practice and through competition every day; looks forward to being tested and challenged; allows positive thinking and thoughts to dominate mind; understands that running outside of “comfort zone” is necessary to improve and get better

Perseverance: accepts the challenge that to reach a maximum level for themselves, they must stick with it and have a decided “no quit attitude”

Courage: has the strength and confidence to push themselves and others beyond their own limits

Excellence: demands from self maximum, daily effort to become the best he or she can be

Teammate: loves to support and encourage others on the team; wants to build positive relationships with others on the team; thinks of others before self

Fun: finds the joy in running as they know they are developing a life skill of healthy living; enjoys the process and journey of becoming a better runner
