Elkhorn High School Band Boosters is a 503c3 tax exempt non profit organization that is run solely by dedicated parent volunteers. There are a number of ways a parent can choose to become involved throughout the school year. Any time donated is greatly appreciated because there's strength in numbers, and we realize time is a luxury for many.
Many volunteer opportunities are tethered to fundraising efforts that are in place. Booster funds help pay for uniforms, equipment, programming, coaches, guest clinicians, and contest fees. The reciprocity of donating even one hour to volunteer within the year helps make it so that the annual band cost per family can remain inexpensive. Funds are also used by awarding an annual scholarship to a student musician and providing financial assistance to band families who are experiencing hardship.
Below are some of the roles you might consider for the coming school year or in the future. Booster groups struggle with the ongoing turn over as students graduate. It is ideal that parents of freshmen and sophomore students apprentice with seasoned band parents to make sure there's a smooth transition from leader to leader.
Below are great ways to get involved!
June 27-July 4th
There are a variety of ways to help during this fundraiser! There are shifts for helping to set up or to tear down. There are shifts to help with resocking inventory, helping customers, and ringing up sales. There is even a need for volunteers to keep watch over night!
Shift lengths will vary, but they are generally 3 hours each.
Signing up for the first time? Be sure to sign up for PARENT slots. There will be someone on site to provide guidance for your role when you arrive.
Marching band season
Personalized yard signs, banners, and feather flags are used to build spirit and boost morale during a hectic season! A spirit team volunteer will arrive to EHS and help place yard signs in the morning AND/OR help put signs away after school or a football game depending on the day.
Putting the signs out or putting them away takes no more than 20 minutes thanks to the innovative system a booster parent has put into place! A spirit team volunteer can sign up for as many AM/PM slots as they'd like.
Signs are presorted on a cart, and a diagram is available to take out all guess work
There are generally at least two volunteers each time
When the ground begins to freeze, we have methods for an easier time!

Last week of July/first week in August (July 28-August 1, 2025)
Elkhorn Public Schools partners with Sodexho for school related meals including EHS Band Camp! This means the hard work is taken care of! A Band Camp Dinner assistant will come to EHS during dinner one or more days of camp to pour lemonade, wipe down tables, and remind band students to pick up after themselves.
At most, it will be 1.5 hours for one shift.
A second volunteer will be present
It's a great way to get to know the kids!

Any marching competition day(s) between mid-September and mid-October
Band students are guided by their coaches and section leader when it comes to appropriate conduct while at competitions, but they are also in need of extra nurturing! While at a competition, a bus chaperone will encourage performers to take care of themselves and to represent EHS with pride. For example, bus chaperones may help remind students to wear sunscreen, to stay out of the mud while in uniform, or to rest and hydrate between the preliminary performance and finals.
Bus chaperones arrive roughly one hour before departure time for competitions, stay at the busses except when EHS performs, and return on the bus with the students. It is an all day commitment, but you're not alone! The bus chaperones and regular bus drivers make the day fun!
Each bus will be equipped with a bag that contains anything a band student may need!
Many bus chaperones choose to bring a folding chair along.
A sack lunch and snack are recommended
Comfortable shoes and your favorite EHS Band gear are your best bet! Bus chaperones generally do a ton of walking.

Any marching competition day(s) between mid-September and mid-October
In order to get all of the gear and instruments to the competition site, members of Pit Crew will be loaded into two trailers before departure. While at the site, everything must be unloaded for performance time(s) and then reloaded afterward. When it's show time, members of Pit Crew will move instruments and props onto the field in a timely manner to help set up as quickly as possible.
Pit Crew volunteers are needed all day on competition days. There will also be predetermined rehearsal times leading up to the first competition. Volunteers may choose to leave between preliminaries and finals since there's generally a few hours between the two.
*It is ideal if a pit crew volunteer is able to help with all competitions so that they can be assigned and adhere to a specific role.
Most equipment is on casters, so volunteers aren't required to do a ton of heavy lifting
As a part of the band's road crew, you'll want to bring a folding chair so you can lounge under pop up tents that are set up alongside the trailer!

Fridays during marching season
Fridays during marching season, students look forward to various breakfast items after rehearsal. A Fun Fridays volunteer can help in a variety of ways:
Pick up and deliver food items
Reach out to local businesses to try and get items donated or at a discount
Help serve the students on one or more Friday
The time commitment depends on the way a volunteer helps! For more information on volunteer needs, email our Fun Fridays coordinator Heather Abbott!
It's a great way to get to know other band parents and students!
The second Saturday in October at EHS
SOE is a marching competition at EHS Stadium hosted by all three Elkhorn high schools! There are many volunteer needs. A few areas of need during the event include:
Concessions
Crowd control
Parking lot attendants
Hospitality (caring for our guest judges)
Licensed medical professional at the first aid tent
Several more!
SOE volunteer shifts are generally 2 to 3 hours long. Volunteers can sign up using the SUG link that is provided usually in late September
SOE programs are printed using advertising revenue. We need someone to help with ad sales! Contact Stacy Knipper, the ESHS Band Booster President, if you're interested!
Concessions manager- concessions manager shifts will be assigned based on when each high school performs, so we need at least one volunteer from each high school. This person oversees concessions station assignments as students sign on for their shifts in addition to communicating with our Sodexo helpers. They will also communicate with the SOE treasurer, Jude Knipper, if there's a need for a cash pick up, or if the Zelle card reader is not working. The concessions coordinators will be accessible throughout the day to help with anything major.
Hospitality- transportation for guest judges. Our Hospitality coordinator, Heather Abbott, works to make our guest judges feel right at home! There may be a need for help in picking judges up from the airport or hotel and transporting them to or from the stadium! If you'd like to be contacted to help out, email elkhornbandboosters@gmail.com.
If you're a business owner, consider advertising in the SOE program! Contact Stacy Knipper to learn more!
A separate SUG will be sent out to families for various donations. SOE is one of our major fundraisers in the year, so concessions profits help tremendously when chips and drinks are donated by band families. Additionally, our hospitality team feeds the guest judges multiple meals and snacks.
Late January
We team up with the ELkhorn Eagles club by helping to prepare made to order breakfast plates for anyone who attends!
Parents can sign up for a kitchen role flipping pancakes, scrambling eggs, or making toast, or we always need help with expo and overseeing student volunteers!
Several groups of regulars come to the Eagles for breakfast regularly and attend the event, so it's a fun way to connect with the Elkhorn community!
Late April
After a month of pre-sales, the day for picking up the beautiful plants provided by Janet's Jungle is one that needs many volunteers in order to run smoothly!
Parents can sign up for two hour shifts helping to help unload the delivery trucks, manage traffic, double check that customers receive their correct orders, and a number of other areas of need.
The coordinators of this event from each of the three high schools will work together to make sure all areas of need are filled.
As a nonprofit, we have to maintain a board of directors. All board members are elected by the booster group after being nominated. Board of directors for the 2025-2026 year have been selected, however, we do not have an acting president at this time. Please contact us to learn more!
