Keith Simmonds (1984) Scholarship for Community Service Fund
If you are committed to community service and volunteerism, please check out the Keith Simmonds (1984) Scholarship for Community Service Fund through the Edmonton Community Foundation. The foundation is currently accepting donations to reach $10,000 + so they can make this an annual award for Ross Sheppard Students. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student at Shep to assist with post-secondary education expenses. This student will have demonstrated commitment to and achievement in community service and volunteering and will have made an impact in both the Shep community and beyond.
Ross Sheppard can nominate one student for this award. If you would like to be considered for nomination, please complete the Google Doc --Keith Simmonds (1984) Scholarship for Community Service - Pre-Screening 2024 by April 5, 2024. Once a candidate is selected for nomination, they will be contacted in order to provide the remaining documents required by the scholarship.
Eligible students will:
Be registered at Ross Sheppard High School and completing high school in the current year.
Demonstrate commitment to and achievement in community service and volunteering, and have made an impact in both the school community and beyond.
Meet entrance requirements for the program of their choice, and have conditional acceptance at a post-secondary institution in Canada.
Write a maximum 500-word personal essay, or create a maximum three-minute video, to provide evidence of their commitment and achievement in community service, and the impact it has had on the school and greater community.
Submit a signed letter of reference from an Edmonton Public Schools staff member, peer, or non-family community member, who can speak to the applicant’s community service activities.

SUNIA is a summer camp like no other. For 70 years, young people from across Alberta and around the world have been coming to SUNIA to explore the issues facing our world and how to make a difference. At SUNIA, you’ll join a community of like-minded youth as you build empathy, develop critical thinking skills, participate in a model Security Council, and explore nuanced perspectives on the world’s most challenging problems. Then hike, swim, and canoe in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. All in one week.

The Edmonton Public ATA generously sends two students from every Edmonton public high school on a full scholarship to attend SUNIA. If you are interested in receiving this scholarship, please contact the Social Studies department head at your school.
THE EVAN GRYKULIAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This community-sponsored scholarship recognizes a student registered at Ross Sheppard High School who is completing high school in the current year, models exemplary leadership qualities and participates in extracurricular activities and who will attend post-secondary studies.
The Evan Grykuliak Memorial Society (EGMS0) was formed as a result of the tragic passing of their dear friend, Evan, a grade 12 student of Ross Sheppard High school in November 2006. They have come together to create a legacy for Evan with the mission to aid in bullying prevention by encouraging strong community values and fostering the development of leadership and character-building in youth. Their vision is the widespread creation of safe and inclusive communities by inspiring compassion and integrity in the leaders of tomorrow.
Eligibility:
1. Be registered at Ross Sheppard High School and be completing high school in the current year.
2. Demonstrate financial need that warrants scholarship support.
3. Meet the entrance requirements for the program of their choice, and have conditional acceptance at a post-secondary institution.
4. Demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities that include: personal integrity, leadership potential, consistent dedication to making a community a better place, and demonstrate resilience and grit.
Award Value: One award of $500
Students are to complete a Google form to express their interest. The Ross Sheppard Awards panel will select two or three potential winners and the Evan Grykuliak Memorial Scholarship Board (external) will make the final decision.
The application closes at the end of May each year.

SARAH HOFFMAN MLA EDMONTON-GLENORA COMMUNITY AWARD
This award is for grade 12 students who have demonstrated community involvement through volunteer services and who are completing their high school education and are enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
Award: $400 gift card to the individual's post-secondary bookstore.
