EDFX 490: Beyond Four Walls

EDFX 490: Beyond Four Walls is an experiential learning course for undergraduate students interested in gaining hands-on experience in alternative education practices. Located at the Bennett, Argyll, and Metro Centres within Edmonton Public Schools, students will spend the semester working and learning with teachers and students in EPSB’s alternative education programs!

Unlike other sections of EDFX 490, Beyond Four Walls is open to all undergraduate students (in any faculty) who wish to learn and experience alternative ideas in education. The standard preprequisites for this course are waved for this section. Can't enroll on Bear Tracks? Contact educinfo@ualberta.ca.

"EDFX 490 helped me explore alternative approaches to education that I wouldn't have otherwise known about during the course of my teacher education. The practical experience exposed me to a greater variety of learning and people in Edmonton. I was able to connect with a really amazing group of learners and educators amongst peers and mentors within the placement experience. The course inspired me to further my studies in community education and as of now, I'm close to completing a Master's degree in the area! It's an experience into a way of thinking and knowing you won't be able to get from the standard practicum."
