Students in Automotive Systems 9 will have the opportunity to learn and understand some of the basic systems necessary for vehicle operation at an introductory level. Systems explored will include the internal combustion engine, cooling system, transmission, brakes, intake, exhaust turbochargers and superchargers, and EV function. The assignments will include written work. Students will also demonstrate some hands-on vehicle skills, such as checking fluids, changing a tire, performing an oil change, replacing brakes, various small repairs, and choosing a quality used car. Students will also have an opportunity to do a film study focused on the impact of vehicles in popular culture. This course is intended to provide basic knowledge to future car owners, as well as to serve as an introduction for those wishing to pursue more technical and detailed instruction in the field of automotive mechanics in the future.
