I have two Canadian coins in my pocket that equal 35 cents. One of them is not a quarter. What coins are they?
When Lisa was 6 years old, her sister Lucy was half her age. If Lisa is 40 years old today, how old is Lucy?
At LEAST 3 different answers for one pictured to right.
To write some things in math in text on a computer, scientists and mathematicians use two symbols we don't normally use in work written by hand.
Those symbols are the for the exponent and division.
To write an Exponent such as 5 to the power of 3, we use the '^' symbol (push Shift-6). It would look like this: 5^3. To write centimetres squared, it would be cm^2.
To write the Division Symbol, we use the forward slash key '/' (it's the same key as a '?'). So, 20 divided by 4 would look like 20 / 4.
The order of operations (+, -, x, /) is VERY important in making sure you get the correct answer. Everyone needs practice to make sure they understand these. The BEDMAS trick tells you the order to do the Operations in in an equation where more than one operation is present.
B - Brackets ()
E - Exponents (Example: 2^2, the '^' is telling you the next number is an exponent)
D/M - Division('/') and Multiplication('x')
A/S - Addition('+') and Subtraction('-')
After doing Brackets and Exponents:
• If you have both Division and Multiplication Operations... Do them from LEFT to RIGHT before ANY additions and subtractions.
Example: 8 x 2 / 3, do 8 x 2 FIRST, then divide 16 by 3. ('/' means divide).
• If you have both Addition and Subtraction operations... Do them from LEFT to RIGHT.
Example: 8 - 4 + 3, do 8 - 4 FIRST, then add 4 +3.
Complete the following assignment with respect to the Order of Operation. There are 10 questions. The first 9 show you individual steps taken to solve the equation on each line.
Example:
Question: 1 + 43 - 8 x 4
CHOICES: (You need to pick the FIRST ERROR).
1 + 43 - 32 (Did 8 x 4 = 32)
44 - 32 (Did 1 + 43 = 44)
12 (Did 44 - 32 = 12)
No Errors, The Answer is 12.
The Correct Answer is the last "No Errors, The Answer is 12.
Orientation is the position or view of an object. For example:
This box is currently standing up straight.
If we turn the box of Cap'n 90 degrees, onto its side, we have changed the boxes orientation.
To find the area of a triangle, you need to take the (Base x Height) / 2. Why?
Measuring them:
If you remember from last week, a Parallelogram has an area of B x H, the triangle is HALF of that, hence the area of a triangle is:
