How many squares do you see in the following image?
Do you have a strategy that helps you quickly count them?
When asked, share your answers with the class in the chat.
You've probably spent a little time wandering around in your home pacing back and forth if you're anything like Mr. G, today you'll get the chance to put it to use. Using your paces (steps) as a measurment, pick a room in your house and try and find the area. Remember, for a rectangle or square, area is the length times the height.
If your room is more complicated, break the room into rectangles and squares and find the area of each on their own, then add them together.
Look at the assignment in your Google Classroom, the first page talks about what you find in a park. You get to make up the sizes of your objects. We'll talk about this in the Live Stream today, but you're welcome to try starting it beforehand.
After the stream, we'd like you to try and complete it. Please submit an image of your work to Google Classroom, or you can type it out in a Doc. Please note you don't have to write your answers on the sheet, you can use lined paper (or unlined).
If you don't have access to Google Classroom, answer the questions in email, voice recording, on paper, etc., and send it to your teacher via email.
