Marching Band

The EPHS Crusader Marching Band is the most visible ensemble in the EPHS Music department. The Marching Band performs at almost all football games and also in marching band competitions and festivals around Northern New Jersey. The group starts in August during summer break and continues through the first week of November. The marching band also marches in parades for the town.

Why marching band?

Marching Band is a unique ensemble in any music department. Playing a musical instrument requires very specific techniques and motor skills. Adding marching to the equation makes the process much harder. The combination of these two requires students to problem solve and refine their technique so that the sound quality of the ensemble remains the same. There is a lot of time and dedication making the visual and audible presentation you see at football games and competitions.

Who can march?

The marching band is open to any student in EPHS/MS in grades 7-12. Students must also participate in HS Concert Band or MS Concert Band to participate. We also have a color guard for students in grades 7-12. No experience is necessary for color guard.

What is color guard?

The color guard is responsible for visually interpreting the music that is played by the band. They are a crucial part of the ensemble and practice just as much if not more than the instrumentalists. The color guard uses flags, rifles and other accessories to enhance their performance and impact in the show.
