All General Music classes in grades 1-5 will participate in a formal concert once a year. The fall semester is dedicated to reviewing last years musicianship skills. As well as preparing music for the winter concert with an emphasis on performing with expression, and demonstrating performance and audience etiquette.
Fourth Grade students participate in an Instrument Families Unit in January based on Luigi's Baton & the Orchestra Family Reunion.
The unit begins with an experiment designed to guide students through the discovery of "What is sound?". The experiment integrates and supports skills being taught in Science class. Students then will follow a multi-media study of the instruments of the orchestra through humorous story-telling, active listening accompanied by listening maps, and a variety of instrument exploration.
During this unit, students who participate in band or take private lessons on an instrument are invited to play their instrument for the class. Arrangements must be made with Mrs. Avery to schedule a performance day.
