Thursday, October 31st, 2:45PM in the Chapel
10 students (5 females, 5 males) from each class.
Test your knowledge against a team of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at EA! Each Upper School class will compete against each other AND against the Middle School.
One male and one female representative from each US grade will compete in one round. Each round will have three questions, and there will be a total of five rounds. Correct answers are worth 100 points, incorrect answers are minus 25 points. Points in the last round will be doubled.
The US class with the most points at the end will win 400 points towards overall Spirit Week points, the class with the second most points will win 300 points, and so on.
Note: Players in this event may compete again in other Spirit Week class competitions.
Sunday, November 3th, 1:00 PM - 3:00PM in the Dining Hall
Come help assemble snack bags for Project HOME, Bethesda Project, UCHC, and other local feeding programs! As tradition, we will be temporarily joining forces with students from Haverford and AIS. Participation in this event will count towards overall EA Spirit Week Class points so encourage your classmates to join in on this tri-school, community service effort!
On the day of the event: Please sign-in on the clipboards to record your participation. Participants must be present for the entirety of the event. Classes with the most participants will win 400 points towards overall Spirit Week points, the class with the second most participants will win 300 points, and so on.
Monday, November 4th, 12:30PM in the Theater
6 students (3 females, 3 males) from each class.
Round 1: 9th vs. 12th
Round 2: 10th vs. 11th
Round 3 (for third place): 9th vs. 10th
Round 4 (for first place): 11th vs. 12th
Note: Players in this event may not compete later this week in Tug-Of-War, Raft Race, or Dodgeball.
Monday, November 6th, 6:00PM - 8:15PM in Class Lounges
Lounges will be judged by EA faculty on Tuesday morning based on seven criteria: Creativity, Craftsmanship, School Spirit, Class Spirit, Mystery Item Use, Banner Design, Class Participation.
Rules:
Although preparations for lounge decoration may start before Spirit Week, the physical lounge space may not be altered or decorated in any way before Monday, November 4th, at 6:00PM.
Lounge decorating starts on Monday, November 6th, 2021 from 6:00PM-8:15PM. Classes must start and finish their lounges within this time frame.
By 8:15PM, a photo of each completed lounge must be taken and sent to Ms. Yu. This is to ensure no changes were made after the deadline.
In addition to the provided supplies, each class may also use a maximum of $100 worth of extra supplies, to be drawn from their own class budget. Receipts must be submitted to Mrs. Shingle by 8:15PM on Monday.
All decorations and supplies must come from either the provided supply list or the $100 max budget. No other decorations, supplies, tools, or materials may be used. No donations are allowed.
Banners may be made in advance. You will receive one nylon banner and one polyester banner.
The competition is limited to decorating the lounge area only. No hallways are permitted.
Hanging anything from ceilings is not allowed. Please only use painters’ tape on the walls.
You must use the provided drop cloth to cover the floor when painting indoors. Do not get any paint on the floor. Please consider painting outdoors, whenever possible.
Students may not spy on or interfere with other lounges during set-up. Please respect each class’s privacy while they work. Students found in spaces in which they do not belong will be left off of the count for the Class Participation criteria.
Each grade will be judged on how they choose to decorate their lounge. The lounges will be judged in the following categories: Creativity, Craftsmanship, School Spirit, Class Spirit, Mystery Item Use, Banner Design, Class Participation. 5 possible points per category, out of 35 possible points total.
Judging will occur the following morning by EA faculty and staff. The grade that receives the highest number of points will win the competition.
Classes must clean their lounges by Thursday, November 7th by 3pm.
Items Provided to Each Class:
2 rolls of LED lights (50 ft. each)
50 sheets of white poster board
12 black sharpie markers, fine tip
12 assorted color sharpie markers, fine tip
8 assorted color sharpie markers, chisel tip
25 white balloons
25 blue balloons
6 rolls of painters tape
3 rolls of scotch tape (not to be used on walls)
2 pairs of scissors
1 roll of drop cloth (to avoid mess when painting)
3 blue plastic table cloths
3 white plastic table cloths
2 4oz bottles of red, yellow, green, blue, white, and black acrylic paint
3 pack heavy duty paint brushes
2 3x5 ft canvas banners (may be worked on before the lounge decoration).
Mystery item (chosen by seniors)
Tuesday, November 5th, 12:30PM on the Campus Green (rain location: Competition Gym)
10 students (5 females, 5 males) from each class.
Each round is best two out of three.
Round 1: 9th vs. 12th
Round 2: 10th vs. 11th
Round 3 (for third place): 9th vs. 11th
Round 4 (for first place): 10th vs. 12th
Round 5 (for 100 overall Spirit Week points): 9th vs. 10th vs. 11th vs. 12th
Note: Players from Family Feud may not compete in this event. Players in this event may not compete again in Raft Race or Dodgeball.
Wednesday, November 6th, 12:30PM in the Natatorium
4 students (2 females, 2 males) from each class.
One male and one female representative from each class will be placed together in an inflatable raft. Each person will be provided a paddle. Starting at a corner, players will need to paddle diagonally across the pool, pick up an item, and return with the item back to their starting corner.
First to touch the pool corner with their raft wins. Rafts may bump into each other, but players may not use their paddles to jostle another raft or player, or to push off from the edge of the pool.
Round 1: 9th vs. 12th (first M/F team)
Round 2: 10th vs. 11th (first M/F team)
Round 3 (for third place): 9th vs. 11th (second M/F team)
Round 4 (for first place): 10th vs. 12th (second M/F team)
Round 5: 9th vs. 10th vs. 11th vs. 12th (any M/F combination)
Extra 100 points to overall Spirit Week score for the grade that comes in first
Note: Players from Family Feud and Tug-Of-War may not compete in this event. Players in this event may not compete again in Dodgeball.
Thursday, November 7th, 12:30PM in the Fieldhouse
10 students (5 females, 5 males) from each class.
Each round is three minutes long.
Round 1: 9th vs. 12th
Round 2: 10th vs. 11th
Round 3 (for third place): 9th vs. 11th
Round 4 (for first place): 10th vs. 12th
Round 5: 12th vs. Teachers
Note: Players from Family Feud, Tug-Of-War, and Raft Race may not compete in this event.
Prepare a dance that celebrates EA and class pride! Dance will be performed during the pep rally on Friday, November 8th.
Dances will be judged by EA faculty based on the following five criteria:
Creativity
Technique
Group Collaboration (includes as many members of the class as possible)
School Spirit
Class Spirit
Please keep your dance under 2 minutes long. Only clean versions of songs may be used.
