Get excited, Panthers; there’s a big show coming up! The drama club will be performing Radium Girls on November 14th and 16th at 6:00 pm and November 17th at 2:00 pm in the high school auditorium.
The play is directed by teacher Joseph Durika. “The play starts earlier in 1921, but the focus is 1926,” Durika explains. The story follows a group of girls who suffered from radium poisoning while working in a factory.
Based on real events from 1917-1926, Radium Girls has themes of the harsh and predatory nature of working environments, especially during a tough industrial era, and is a heart-tugging tale of workers’ rights.
The cast has been working diligently to produce the best quality for the play. They often practice even through lunch, but have a fun time and enjoy seeing the production come together.
Students have a variety of reasons for performing on stage. Junior Gabbie Wood shared, “You can be somebody else up on the stage!” This, she said, is the reason she enjoys and connects with stage plays.
Senior JJ Miller who plays the role of Raymond Berry in the play states, “I enjoy getting to meet new people that I wouldn’t normally get to talk to.”
Senior Foster Lemley, who plays two roles in the production, agrees. He says he joined because he “... thought it would be a novel, useful, enjoyable experience to become more well-rounded.”
The production has gone smoothly, according to Durika and the cast. Of course, there are the usual nerves to contend with. How do the actors get over that? “Rehearse!” states Miller.
Besides the fall play, the drama club is involved in other activities. On October 31, they held a Halloween costume contest during school lunches.
The club is also working for fundraisers and will host the Easter Egg Hunt contest later this year.
Durika enjoys advising the drama club here at East Pennsboro. Regarding the school, he said, “It’s very nice. I think it’s great. The people [here] care about each other.”
The drama club also encourages any student to join. “You can meet a lot of people,” freshman Evelyn Grimwood stated. The club is currently open to new members.

Discover 4 Unforgettable Concert Tours
Story by Morgan Woods, freshman ▪ November 11, 2024
Swifties are preparing to bid farewell to Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour on December 8th, 2024. After almost two years, one of the most anticipated concerts of 2023 and 2024 is ending. Her last few shows will be from November 14th to December 8th in Toronto and Vancouver. Sadly, she will not be stopping near PA in the final shows of her tour.
Not only will you be able to see the infamous Taylor Swift, but also the rising star Gracie Abrams, who is opening for the final shows. Not only is she opening for Taylor, but she is also currently doing her tour called The Secret of Us, which started on September 5, 2024 and is planning to go until May 17, 2025.
Billie Eilish also started her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour on September 29, 2024, in Quebec City, based on her new album “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” The tour is supposed to span from September 29, 2024 to July 27, 2025, ending in Dublin, Ireland.
But that’s not all. Olivia Rodrigo is close to finishing her Guts World Tour. The tour started on February 24, 2024 and is set to end on July 1, 2025 in Manchester. The hit song of the tour is "Vampire", which Olivia released in 2023.
These are only a few amazing artists traveling the globe and bringing music to our lives.

On August 23, 2024, Netflix released their new comedy movie, Incoming, directed by Dave and John Chernin.
Incoming is a movie revolving around 4 teenage boys fresh into high school trying to make a name for themselves, which includes attending an upperclassmen party. Each boy goes on a quest of their own. The main character, Benj Nielson (portrayed by Mason Thames) attends this party in an attempt to rebrand himself and win over his crush.
The movie has some familiar faces such as Mason Thames, most known from another movie called The Black Phone, and Loren Gray, most known as a social media influencer.
The funniest actor of the movie, in my opinion, was the chemistry teacher, Mr. Studebaker, portrayed by Bobby Cannavale.
He would do some outrageous and dangerous things you wouldn’t expect from a teacher, but that's what made him cool and funny. On one occasion he attended the party and spit alcohol out in front of a lighter to make it seem as if he was breathing out fire.
What I did not like about the movie was definitely the ending. In the end scene, Benj tries to win his crush over by being himself.
I personally think that how this turns out sends the wrong message to viewers, showing that other people’s opinions matter too much.
Overall, the movie was hilarious and funny, as it gives the viewer insight to the minds of 9th grade high school teenage boys.
