Charter and private schools all have different deadlines and lottery procedures. If you are interested in these schools of choice, monitor their websites and reach out to the school directly with any questions.
For your public base high school, technically no. However, if your base school is capped, or you are enrolling in a charter or private school, the answer may be different. You cannot officially enroll in another school until the summer, because enrollment in another school while at ESA would result in unenrollment from ESA. You can pre-enroll on your school district's website.
Student cumulative records are sent to high schools over the summer, after the school year has concluded. Once your student is enrolled in their high school, the high school will submit a formal records request to ESA. You do not need to request your student's records!
This is a big one:
All ESA 8th graders will be given core class recommendations from their current teachers. This includes Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies.
Many students will complete a course registration form sometime in March. (This does not apply to charter or private schools.) Some WCPSS schools will send a counselor to talk about high school and course selection, but not all schools will. The course registration form is not an official course selection. Students cannot officially select courses because they are not enrolled in the public school system, but this course registration form serves as a placeholder until they can be fully registered and entered into the system over the summer.
Most local high schools will require incoming freshmen to attend an orientation day camp towards the end of summer. This is when official schedules will be distributed.
Check your future high school's website regularly for updates!
No. The team at ESA will do all we can to answer questions and direct you to the appropriate resources. However, no one from ESA will register or enroll your child in high school.
