The fabLAB is on level 3 in the Pontio building and consists of two workshops 'hack' and 'proto' together with our media lab. Its currently open most Fridays 'FabFriday' (check availability on the Pontio website - see below).
FabFriday is an open access day where you can learn and use digital manufacturing and prototyping equipment and techniques. It affords quick, safe exploration of ideas through application of digital rapid prototyping technologies supported by simple craft tools and materials . In the fabLAB you can expect chance encounters and conversations with people from a diverse range of backgrounds; often this leads to collaborations and opportunities.
Minimum age 18 years (14 if under the supervision of an adult member).
fabLAB admission is strictly on a ticketed basis, and you must book your place in advance, ideally through the Pontio website where you will be prompted to create an account. Creating an account is essential in order for us to be able to assign fabLAB membership. It is also possible to book a place in person via the Pontio box office, ensuring the ticket is connected to your online account so that you are able to book further sessions.

Book a free ticket for a FabFriday Introduction session on the Pontio website - www.pontio.co.uk. This session is an introductory session to the fabLAB spaces, and equipment available to users, and has two parts.
a) Participants will be able to see what’s available, talk to knowledgeable and experienced staff, and explore the possibilities of prototyping and realising their own projects.
b) If you like what you see then you can sign up as a fabLAB user following our general safety induction by signing an acknowledgement form.

Following the completion of the induction session your membership will be updated on the www.pontio.co.uk website system within two working days. This will enable you to view the equipment specific training session dates available to book at a nominal cost. Free membership gives participants access to the fabLAB tools, however before being let loose on a machine it is mandatory to complete equipment specific training before using that particular piece of equipment. These sessions occur on a cycle, training sessions on all machines will not be happening every Friday. Currently we do not have a system in place to inform you of new training session dates, please check the website periodically.
In order to see the bookable sessions you will need to LOG IN TO YOUR ACCOUNT FIRST on the ‘My Account’ page. If you booked the induction session via the website you will have used an e-mail address. This e-mail address will be the one that has the updated membership status attached to it. If you forget your password please use the password recovery function on the website. If you create a new account it will not have the membership status attached to it.

Following your machine specific training session you will be able to book a free morning and/ or afternoon workshop session to work on your own projects using that specific machine. Again you will need to LOG IN TO YOUR ACCOUNT in order to see these bookable sessions. Booking a space on these morning and afternoon workshop sessions means that you have booked your space in the workshop. It does not mean that you have booked time on a specific machine, machine use is on a first come first serve basis.
