May 2021
By Director of Aquatics and Head Coach, Christian Bahr
Nashville is expected to ease all social distancing and gathering restrictions on May 14th. In light of this change, we will also update our restrictions as they relate both to swim practice and swim meets. Please note that mask-wearing will still be required in the Natatorium!
Beginning May 15, we will eliminate splitting groups (Stingrays, Dolphins, Sharks, Marlins) and open all practices to all groups so long as the gathering size restrictions are lifted as stated.
Parents will once again be welcome inside the Natatorium during practice beginning on May 15. Masks will be required. While there is expected to be no social distancing requirement from the Metro Health Department, we do ask that all parents respect each other’s space.

The lifted restrictions in Nashville will also affect how we run our long course meet on May 21 to 23, 2021. Our plan is to bring the bleachers back into the pool and seat some athletes on the pool deck as well as use the upstairs spectator seating. Our intent is to follow the most current city-mandated protocols. Athletes will be required to wear their masks any time they are not in the water, eating, or drinking.
We do plan to allow spectators in the meet. We are working to determine whether and how to limit the number of spectators. We will also have the terrace doors on the balcony level open and encourage parents to sit outside as much as possible. We also will ask that parents respect each other’s space and not crowd together. This will be a new experience for everyone and, after a year of being conditioned to be wary of gatherings of any size, it is likely that some percentage of our families will feel uncomfortable. We ask that we all respect each other’s comfort or anxieties as they relate to proximity with each other. Please note that parents will be required to wear masks while inside the building.
Moving on is a part of life, and every year we say farewell to young men and women who are preparing to begin the next chapter of their student-athlete experience. It is never easy to say goodbye! However, every goodbye is connected to memories that we will always cherish, just as we will with our graduating class of 2021.

The 2021 TISCA State High School Swimming & Diving Championships were held across four different competition sites due to safety precautions concerning COVID-19. These sites included Tupelo MS, Kingsport TN, Chattanooga TN, and here at Ensworth High School in Nashville TN. Also unlike the traditional TISCA Championship meet, historically held at one location, this year’s meet was solely timed-finals - bypassing preliminary qualifications. At the end of the final session on Sunday, April 25th, results from the four meets were combined together and scored accordingly.
Despite the unideal meet set-up, the results from this year’s TISCA Swimming & Diving Championship looked like any normal year, that is, high-level swimming - and lots of it. Here at Ensworth Aquatics, we were pleased to meet our expectations of securing a significant chunk of the top 8 & top 16 finishes. I would like to express my deepest thanks for helping Ensworth host the 2021 TISCA State Championships on April 24 - 25.
Volunteers - Whether you were a meet marshall, a timer, a check-in person, or working hospitality, we could not have done any of this without you. Thank you for being willing to help us navigate all of the challenges inherent in running events these days, and for selflessly giving your time to help us put on this event. No matter what school you were cheering for in your heart, what I saw was one big team of parents all rooting for the same thing: A great experience for their kids. Thank you.
Coaches - All of you were incredibly helpful in upholding all of the Covid hoops we have to jump through and, from what I saw, so were your kids. That tells me that each of you shared the importance of doing what we must (masks, distancing, etc) in order to do what we love: Give our athletes the opportunity to race! Thank you for being such great examples to your athletes and for making this as stress-free of an experience for the host team as possible.
Officials - We had a crew of officials representing different USA Swimming teams and High School teams and all of you working together, giving up your time, and being there for all of these athletes. I have always been a coach and so I don’t exactly volunteer to be here, it is my job! But I know that all of the hard work these kids put in is pointless without your willingness to man the ramparts weekend in and weekend out so the athletes can realize their goals. As a coach I know I will never be able to thank any of you enough.
Our team is still actively recruiting officials. Please consider taking the steps to get certified with U.S.A. Swimming.
If you have not already joined your swimmers' GroupMe, please consider downloading the app and joining. Parents, coaches, and staff use GroupMe to communicate last-minute updates, traffic issues, practice changes, lost and found, carpooling, and much more. Each practice group has its own group text, and we believe if you ask any returning team members, they will confirm that GroupMe is an invaluable communication tool as it enables them to ask specific questions and plan activities particular to their practice group. Use this link to download the GroupMe app.
