Kids read and compare three eclipse folktales:

• "Mani and Sol" (Norwegian)

• "The Fire Dog" (Korean)

• "The Black Squirrel" (Native American)

Then they create their own eclipse tale using a different animal. 

Nine full-page informative passages provide facts about the Sun and Moon, solar and lunar eclipses, phases, as well as their sizes and positions relative to Earth. Questions and answers correspond to the informational texts. As a culmination, a writing prompt asks kids to compare and contrast solar and lunar eclipses.
