Learning Target: The student will create a strong enclosure to withstand the big bad wolf’s blowing (hair dryer). They will individually make a plan that includes materials needed, and create in week 1. They will review their structure and make changes or build a new enclosure and share what they learned in week 2.
Some of the things the students are learning in this lesson:
Attending and engaging- Working towards sustaining interest over 2 weeks
Persistence -Trying hard things
Solves problems- How can you make your enclosure strong enough?
Curiosity and motivation- Exploring and investigating ways to make something happen.
Flexibility- Change plan if needed.
Recognize and recall- Talking about last week's lesson.
Makes connections- Using what they learned in week week 1.
Thinks symbolically- Drawing their plan.
Questions to ask your child:
Why did you choose those materials?
How can you make it stronger?
How are you planning to do that?
What changes are you going to make?
Week 1: Plan and Do
Make a plan to build an enclosure that will protect the pig from the wolf.
Build your enclosure.
Test it out with a hair dryer or fan.
Week 2: Review and Share
Review your work from last time to think of you can make it better.
Make your enclosure better, or build a new one.
Test it out.
Share what you learned in your science journal or a seesaw video.
