While the escapement wheel and pendulum arms are fixed designs, the lower part of the pendulum left room for creative freedom. My pendulum is based on Excalibur because my high school's mascot is a knight. I decided to design the model so that the sword was upside-down because it allowed me to more easily attach the arms to the rest of my pendulum. This also left plenty of room to attach the bolts to the bottom of the pendulum so that it would be well-balanced.
