Medicare spending accounted for 15% of the total federal budget in 2017, comparable to the spending on Defense, and the percentage is estimated to increase to 18% by 2018. Another fact is that according to the National Cancer Institute, the part of Medicare expenditure that was related to the treatment and care of cancer patients had steady grown from 120 billion US dollars in 2010 to 150 billion in 2018, which accounted nearly one fourth of the total Medicare expenditure. An affordable early cancer detection can not only decrease the cost of diagnosis of cancer, but also make most of the diagnosis at early stage to control the cost of care.
With our detection technology, we hope to provide accessible and affordable early cancer detection to middle-low income families in the United States and around the world. We noticed the fact that cancer is not only a major health problem in the US, but also in the global society, especially in countries suffered from poverty and cannot provide effective treatment. Thus, we emphasize on our responsibility to make our solution accessible to almost every patient around the world.
Gantt Chart of our design process
With major breakthrough of the gel-encapsulating chemistry, we are expecting our solution to be available in years, and we are actively seeking commercialization opportunity of our world-changing product. -Please contact yij052@ucsd.edu for inquiries about the project and collaborations.
